Plot

The story begins where the oldest pig on the farm, Old Major has a dream. He then calls a meeting to tell all the animals about it.The name of the farm was: Manor Farm. He said he had a dream about a rebellion were the animals would take over and all humans will be expelled from the farm. Three days after the meeting  he died and was buried under a tree in the orchard. The animals rebelled and  expelled Mr. Jones (the farmer) and his men from the farm and changed the name to “Animal Farm”. After the pigs took charge, the smartest two Snowball and Napoleon becomes the leaders, but they hate each other. As the farm starts to prosper, the pigs became even more selfish taking larger ration than the others animals. Snowball still wanted everybody to be equal. Not long after that Napoleon used his trained fierce dogs to expel Snowball from the farm and with this a couple of communistic themes appear for example:

•  Totalitarianism
•  They used  intelligence and education as tools of oppression
•  Propaganda
•  Violence and terror as means of control

Napoleon and the other pigs are corrupted by the absolute power they hold over the farm. Eventually the animal laws were replaced by their favorite slogan: All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”,and “Four legs good, two legs better!”as the pigs become more human.

The book was rejected by 4 publishers before it was published on 17 August 1945 in England the reason for this was that it reflects events leading up to and during the Stalin era before World War II. Orwell was a strong critic of Stalinism.

Christian Perspective

This book is written from a political perspective in the form of a fable.

The characters in the book didn’t act in a Christian way, but in a communistic way.

The writer couldn’t change the way the characters acted, because it would change the meaning of the book and he wanted to expose communism for what it was.

I don’t agree with communism and it is far from Christianity.

What I think of the book and to whom I would recommend it.

I think animal farm is a brilliant book. And a perfect explanation of communism.

This book is directly aimed at Russia and countries like  China. I like the book, because it shows that communism starts with small things that becomes bigger and more noticeable with time.

I would recommend this book to any one that likes politics and the way communism and other government structures work.

fourth time

Story Review: I think this book is called The Capture because Soren(main character)was captured by St. Aegolius Academy. This book takes place in the forest of Tyto where the barn owls home land is. Before Soren was captured by St.Aegolius Academy patrol his life was perfectly normal. He had a new baby owl sister and his older brother Kludd and of course his mom and his dad. Because of his evil brother. He was taken to the dark frightening canyon called orphanage. He and his friend Gylfie suspects that it’s going to get far worse… To escape, the will need to try something new; fly. Along the way Soren and Gylfie bumps into Digger and Twilight, together they seek the truth and face unthinkable danger.

My thoughts I chose this book because a friend of mine recommended to me. I liked this book because it had a lot of adventures and mysteries in it. And I also enjoyed the part when the four bands of owls work together and seek the truths. In my opinion this book is a great I really enjoy reading how Soren reacts to his problem and solving it. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about adventures and mysteries

Christian perspective: some of the reasons why I don’t think this book is written from a Christian perspectives are, does not include anything from the bible, it doesn’t include anything about what would Jesus do. And it could have been written with a lot more Godly in it

Story Review:

If you ever think about surviving in a forbidden region bound in snow, it usually means thinking about death! You can’t build a fire while it’s snowing and no one will even think about looking for you in such area, because of the weather. However, what makes it even worse is that if you’re stuck with someone you absolutely hate. Harry Mazer describes the tough survival of the lost Cindy and Tony in the forbidden Tug Hill Plateau near New York State in mid-January, 1970’s, as they were bound and put into the hands of what seams to be an endless cold snow storm of misery in Tug Hill, hence the title “Snow Bound”. This book was written in themes of survival, urgency, and change, because young teens were changed, desperate, turned around 180 degrees through the effects and discoveries of survival, and always feeling the urgency to find a way out of disaster!

Tony was a spoiled teen with attitude. He always got what he wanted and came from a family that was very high-tempered and aggressive. As he wandered through the streets, looking for a change in his life through his surroundings, he found a lost dog and instantly developed a deep connection with him. He decided to take him home. When Tony asked his father if he could keep the dog, the first word that went on his father’s mouth was NO! They had a huge argument, until Tony decided to secretly keep him. Later at night, the landlords were disturbed by the dog and Tony’s father got rid of it. Tony got so frustrated and angry at his father when he found out, because he loved that dog and it was gone. He said he wanted to “teach his father a lesson”, so he took his mom’s car and decides to drive in the severe storm all the way to his uncle in Canada behind his family’s back!

On the other side there was Cindy, a quite, aloof, and independent girl, who came from a rich and very musical family. Her only problem was that she was a hitchhiker which led her to danger. As she waited in the bus stop for the bus to Watertown, she was angry at the fact that there could be a delay of 2-3 hours. She decided to hitchhike behind her grandma’s back and it just so happened that the second car to stop by was Tony’s. She got in the car and there was an awkward silence between them. The storm started getting worse and worse and the visibility lower and lower. When Tony pretended to know where he was going to calm Cindy down, a vicious blow of snow took their sight away and Tony went out of control with the car. As they were violently bumped into rocks and fields, they hit what they didn’t except to find! They hit a huge rock that threw the car half up in the air and then the car came back down!

They were shocked and unbelievably hurt. They wasted a lot of time bickering with each other and assigning blame. They were on their last nerves and were freaking out. They were in the middle of no where without any sources, it was impossible for them to leave the car in this weather, and the worst thing was that the car engine wasn’t going neither was the heater! They needed fire. They argued over starting a fire inside the car, but it was settled. At least, there had to be a small fire for survival. For that they used a cigarette lighter found in the car and paper. Now there was another problem, food! After they started to get along a little bit, Tony decided he was going to go on a journey to find something, just anything to help them live. During his search, after days of struggles, fear of vicious attacks, and suffering, he lost hope and started praying desperately until he found it! He found a stream of water that led him to an old, abandoned cabin. This was the best moment of his life as he found in there furniture and lots of food. He stayed for another day and came back to the patiently waiting Cindy. They were overfilled with joy. They took what could be useful and left. When they found the cabin, they thought it was impossible for anything horrible to happen again, only until they left.

Tony broke his ankle and they got in a huge fight! Without thinking, Cindy decided to leave him because that was what he asked for. That was it; they were tired of the constant arguments and didn’t think any of this through. However, when she heard the cry of Tony, she stopped and turned to look at what could’ve been the end of their lives, a wolf! She ran, pulling Tony on the sled behind her! When they got far away, they realized that they left everything behind them and that they didn’t have any tools of survival. He stood up with one hand on a stick and put the other hand over Cindy’s shoulder to keep his balance. They walked and walked in the unending forest with new hope. Hope that wouldn’t have been there if they didn’t realize that the only tool of survival they had left was nothing except each other! Did they ever find anything again, or were they found by someone? If not what would’ve been their last actions or words to each other?


Christian Perspective:

This book was not written in a Christian perspective, however, Tony did pray once in his journey to the cabin. What was not Christ-like what so ever would’ve been Tony’s attitude! He had a rejecting, selfish, and proud attitude that developed hate and caused many problems – him running away, being rude and vicious with Cindy, and getting lost in the first place. Also, the way Cindy left him showed carelessness from her not Christ’s love. However, they did both learn their lesson at the end. Hate brings foolishness and love brings hope. Without Cindy coming back to save him from the wolf and both of them accepting each other, there would’ve been no hope except now in that case.


My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book very much! I chose this book, because I enjoy reading adventure and realistic fiction. I’ve enjoyed the Hatchet and I wondered what the storyline of survival would be like if it were a group of people instead of one person alone. The reason this book is very interesting is that it describes how tough it is to survive with someone else if you don’t put your differences in how you do things aside. The author did an amazing job especially in leaving behind the reader with a question in his/her mind at the end of each chapter that he/she will be desperate to find the answer for! The author used very descriptive words with good connotation and used lots of similes, metaphors, and personification. I learned a lot about the hardships of survival and some new techniques on surviving in the winter. I recommend this book to those who enjoyed reading the Hatchet, because if you did that shows you were interested in the theme of survival. You’ll be very engaged in this book as there is more dialogue because there are two lost people not just one. I hope you enjoy the book!

Story Review:

This story begins in a valley occupied by dragons who receive the news that humans are moving in to flood their valley. One of the young dragons named Firedrake decides to go out in search of the Rim of Heaven with his cat-like friend Sorrel for a place to stay in peace, but that is believed by many to be nonexistent. Firedrake, on the other hand, has always dreamed of finding that magical place high in the mountains where dragons are said to be hiding in safety from Nettlebrand the Golden One, and where they are safe from humans. Nettlebrand is a mighty creature that appears as a dragon but really was made by an alchemist with a secret recipe. After being created, Nettlebrand ate his master and hunted silver dragons, such as Firedrake. Even though they have tried, the silver dragons cannot melt Nettlebrand’s golden scales, and they have been hiding from him ever since his last huge hunt. They are said to be hiding in the Rim of Heaven, and Firedrake is determined to find them.

During the journey, Firedrake and Sorrel run into a boy named Ben. Ben decides that he wants to go with Firedrake and Sorrel on their journey, and that’s where the title comes from. Ben is believed to be the rider who will fulfill the legends from long ago and who will bring safety for the dragons. After receiving a map from a rat that they were told to visit, they go on their way. Sorrel thinks that he should be in charge of giving directions, but lands in a place that is shaded yellow on the map, which means danger. They happen to land right near Nettlebrand’s castle, and the Golden One sends his armor cleaner Twigleg to spy on the dragon during his journey so that he can give Nettlebrand directions to the Rim of Heaven and so that Nettlebrand can hunt once again. Ben the “Dragon Rider” is a key character in this book and his adventures are a main part of the storyline.

On their journey, the three companions run into many more problems, and meet many new creatures such as a basilisk, a sea serpent, enchanted ravens that are also Nettlebrand’s spies, and a djinn with a thousand eyes. Will Firedrake find the Rim of Heaven? Will Twigleg stay faithful to Nettlebrand? Will Nettlebrand ever be defeated? Will the existence of dragons disappear forever? You’ll just have to read the book and find out! This story will take you through many adventures as you discover hidden secrets and sense a theme of adventure, suspense and fantasy.

Christian Perspective:

I don’t think this book was written from a Christian perspective because it’s a fantasy about dragons and other mythical creatures with no symbolism in it like Chronicles of Narnia for instance. In this book, there is a place called the “Rim of Heaven.” We believe that after you die you may or may not go to heaven and that there is no physical place that takes up matter and space that is heaven, but rather that it is a realm. In the book it refers to the safe place for dragons as the “Rim of Heaven,” and it doesn’t have anything to do with heaven as we know it. I think the reason the term “Heaven” is used is because we think of heaven as a perfect place to live in peace and that’s exactly what is was for the dragons. Even though this book wasn’t written from a Christian perspective I didn’t find it offensive or disrespectful to Christianity at any point.

Personal Thoughts:

I have read this book numerous amounts of times, and each time I discover something new. I chose this book at first because it seemed really interesting, and I chose to read it again because I really like the story line and I hadn’t read it in a long time. Even though the amount of pages may seem intimidating to some, it is fairly large print and the pages are small. Trust me, once you get into this book, you can’t stop yourself. I read it in only a few days, and I never got bored of it. I really liked it because it always left you with a cliffhanger and it always kept you thinking. You had to try to figure out what was going to happen next and had to try to put all the pieces together for it to make sense. I could really picture myself in the scene with the characters, and could also feel what they were feeling. I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy books because this book is all fantasized. The author had a really creative imagination and I think that people who don’t usually enjoy fantasy might even like this book!

She was known as a "mountain of trouble" because she wasalways running away from the homes she was sent to if she didn't like them. Shenever goes to school and has just found a home shelikes. Her foster parent was Josie Cahill and she as an old artteacher who is losing her memory and now Hollis must be taken away from her. She also was sent to another home she reallyliked over the summer. That was the Regan family.

Inthe Regan family there was Izzy who was the mother, the Old Man who was thefather, and Stephan who was the son. Hollis got along with everyone in thefamily. She could always talk to Izzy who would make candyand try to keep things under control. The Old Man and Stephan were alwaysfighting but still loved each other. Stephan and Hollis made very good friendsand were always doing everything together. She mentions Stephan a lot in herflashbacks. Now there's a new addition to the family, her name is Christina andis a six-week-old baby girl that Izzy just had. Christina made the family complete for Hollis.

"Themustard woman." She's the one who is arranging homes for Hollis. She hasearned the name the mustard woman from Hollis who saw her for the first timewith a large mustard stain on her sweat pants. Hollisisn't too fond of her because she's going to take Hollis away from Josie.Hollis is actually happy with Josie and isn't considering running away from heranytime at all. She's setting her up with another home because of Josie'smemory problem. BUT... will Hollis get to stay with Josie? Is Hollis’ searchfor the perfect family over? Pictures Of Hollis Woods.....

Christian Perspective

Hollishas gone through a lot in her life. The one thing everyone needs is a family,someone to love them and care for them. Hollis thought she didn’t have that,but what she didn’t know is that God is with her wherever she goes. That’s thesame with us, when times of trouble come we need to turn to God and He will bethere for us. Nothing here on earth will satisfy us in anyway, even though itmight seem that way at the time. Heavenly things always will over power earthlythings! Depend on nothing and nobody except God! God is the one guaranty ofsatisfaction!!!

My Thoughts

Ireally liked this book, this book taught me to appreciate the family that Ihave! This book was recommended to me by our school librarian, and I turned outliking it! I would recommend this book to someone who is searching for the “perfect family” or someone who needs encouragementof hope for finding the family!! What each person`s thoughts on a perfectfamily is different. Maybe you come from a family with one parent or even noparents. I never stop to think on how lucky I am to have both my parentstogether. Even if I don’t think my family is perfect I still know that withthem I would probably be on the streets. A prefect family to Hollis was peoplethat she liked. She had been to many foster homes that she can`t keep track ofhow many she has been in. I think there is no such thing as a ``perfect family``, all families havesome flaws, some bigger than others and some even more noticeable that others.But all that doesn’t matter, what matters is that you have some that caresabout you. Even if you don’t think so there is someone out there that cares foryou!!

Everest: book one: The Contest

The Contest is the name of the book and it is book 1 of the Everest trilogy. The story takes place in Summit Athletic Sports Training Facility in High Falls, Colorado located in Rocky Mountains, another location was a mountain named Lucifer’s claw in Alaska. The story dates to a couple of years back. The reason the book is named The Contest is because there is a contest
between 20 candidates and of the 20 only 4 will be chosen to climb Everest, the people in the story are excited to enter this competition because they will be the youngest team to ever climb Everest. The main characters are Dominic, there’s Chris, his older brother, Tilt Crowley, a ruthless poor boy, Bryn Fielder, Samantha Moon, a fearless 15-year-old, and Perry Noonan. The Theme of this book is always aim for the highest and never give up. When you think there is no way out, find ways to solve it.

Dominic, 13, has won one of five wildcard spots for a four-week intensive boot camp competition in Colorado while his older brother, Chris, was already attending because he is second best climber in the country. 15 people are chosen by Cap Cicero (The leader of the expedition and world famous climber) and the other 5 are entered from winning a contest sponsored by Summit Athletic fuel juice, this is how Dominic entered. When Chris and Dominic went to the training facility in Colorado they were amazed of the extra ordinary training facility along with the other 17 climbers. The reason of having only 19 people was because Cap was reserving a spot for 16 year old boy who has already climbed Everest; his name was Ethan Zaph also known as the Z-man. So Cap’s job was to choose 3 kids out of 19 to climb Everest and he would do that through boot camp. The boot camp was so intense that few people quit on the first day. Every week Cap would choose 3 to leave the team. It came down to Chris (Dominc’s older brother), Bryn Fielder (the country’s top female alpinist), and Perry Noonan, whose billionaire uncle is footing the bill for the entire expedition and the Z-man. However, Tilt, Dominic, and Samantha where going back home. While Tilt, Dominic, and Samantha where riding the car back to the airport, they turned on the radio and heard that Ethan Zaph was joining another climbing team so they went back and told Cap about the change.

When cap heard this he was outraged and now he had to pick Tilt, Dominic, and Samantha.
Cap chose Samantha to take Ethan’s place. So now Perry, Sammi, Bryn and Chris are in the original team. The team changed for many reasons like Chris Alexis was kicked off because he was too old and he wouldn’t beat any records so Dominic took Chris’s spot. Cap thought they were now ready for real practice, so he took them to Alaska in a mountain called Lucifer’s claw. Cap was there to make sure they were doing everything right. When they got high up they would set up tents and sleep there for the night. While everyone was in deep sleep, Perry couldn’t sleep, so he got out the tent to take a breather at 2:30am and while he went out he saw Bryn walking towards the cliff. He tried to stop her but she kept walking and fell off. Perry panicked and woke up the whole team. He told Cap that she had fell off and Cap went down to save her with the help of Dominic. Something they didn’t know was Bryn had a history of sleep walking. They discovered she was still alive but lots of her bones were broken and that why the called in a chopper to pick her up and they called Tilt to replace Bryn. This is the end of book one but there is still book 2 and 3 where they pick up off where book one ended.

Christian perspective
This book is not written with a Christian perspective. But Christ like behaviours reflected, Dominic would think of others first and he was the only character that wasn’t judgemental and he never gave up. One thing that really amazed me was that one of the characters mentioned there is no such thing as luck only God’s will and that is something I would agree with. Some of the characters would say “thank God”. I think the book hints some religious characters. A way
this book can be more Christian, if it would mention them praying to God for strength and help during the boot camp and that they would stay physically fit, then it would have given a deeper reflection on faith. Overall Dominic shows his Christian like behaviour because he does not lose hope. Throughout the book there were many moments where he got frustrated but he controlled himself, like how a Christian should. If I would climb Everest I would be really scared and I
would ask God for help.


My Thoughts
I chose this book because the title sounded cool and the book was written by my favourite author, Gordon Korman. The book turned to be one of my favourites; in my opinion it’s the best
dventurous book out there. This book has an extensive amount of details and describes the characters thoughts really well. I personally not very fond of these type of adventurous books, but this one was really fun that I might read the whole trilogy. Reasons I like this book is because it has a really good story to teach which is having perseverance. There were lots of new words in
this book that I found helpful to add on to my vocabulary words list. I recommend this book for the type of people interested in adventure and survival books, this book stresses on the idea of having hope and not giving up.

Everest

Book review

Book two: The climb

The reason why they call this book Everest is because there are four kids, doctors, legendary climbers of Everest climb. Four teens named Sammi, Tilt, Dominic, and Perry and the doctors and legendary climbers where Dr. Oberman and Dr. Drake and the climbers are Cap, and Ethan. This story starts when where on a plane coming to a city called Kathmandu, then they got hotel rooms and free time to play. Then they were driving to a special camp for training but they have to reach the camp slowly because there is a sickness called HAPE is when the air gets to thin and you can hardly breathe and you can die or get very sick but what these teens don’t know is that this isn’t just a goal but for one of them this is the last resting place. On the way to Base camp Dominic was struck by an illness called HAPE and he and Dr. Oberman had to stay back while the rest of the team go to base camp. In base camp same members of the expedition meet the great legendary Ethan Zaph who next climb is to climb Mount Everest with NO OXYGEN TANK. When Dominic and Dr. Oberman where in the town waiting for his sickness to heal Dominic was getting use to thin air and he began To start healing then when finally healed he was used to the thin air so when they climb a mountain he doesn’t need to wear a gas mask. And when Dominic and Dr. Oberman finally meet up with the rest of the expedition so meet and played and slept there in camp one. But after some time one expedition went and the great Ethan finally gave up and collapsed and pasang passed out and they got stuck so a rescue was planned and the summit was cancelled and Sneezy, cap, Dominic went to help them they finally found them and helped them after so much confusion. Near to the end Dominic makes a choice the saves nesters and his life the great Ethan did not believe that Dominic a thirteen year old can do it but he did. They still were stuck on the mountain and the only way down was to slide, down but then everything goes extremely wrong and Nester or Dominic almost die, but then who ever fell was found and he was extremely injured but he was alive after that. Everyone even Ethan believed that Dominic can do it. But soon they heard on the radio then there’s a fifty-fifty chance of climbing due to weather conditions.

My thoughts

My thoughts on this book is it’s an amazing book because when I started read it was boring but then it start to get interesting and interesting so read more and more and I like it and also a little spoiler alert is my next book review is on Everest book three also my friend Nayer is doing a book review on Everest book one the contest so check his book review guys. This book is great recommendation this to people who like exploring. I chose this book because I had no other book that I liked to read and because it was short, but when I finished the book I loved it, and it series it is really an amazing book.

Christian perspective

This book has a unique Christian perspective in it because it does not talk about what God wants us to do, but these four teens have very good characteristics like Dominic put his friends life in front of his. But at the same time there are those who have very bad characteristics like Tilt who cared about the summit more than his friends lives and called his leader Cap a moron for stopping the summit and helping the other expedition when they were in trouble.

But once the day finally arrives and the candy factory opens their doors, Logan finds himself face to face with three complete strangers ; Daisy , Phillip, and Miles.

Then the journey begins, the four of them embark on an adventure that will change their lives forever. The four children grow in their friend ships and just when Logan thinks he has found some friends every thing changes.

Logan realizes that all his friends want is the candy makers secret ingredient. How could they? Logan doesn't understand, can he trust them any more?

After they all have gotten down to work creating their candy,Logan approaches Miles. Was he supposed to just ask him what he was after? Relieved that Miles was most certainly not interested in any secret ingredient, he moved on to Daisy.

This is where Logan got confused. The Daisy she appeared to be, was definitely not the Daisy she really was, in fact, her name wasn't even Daisy. She soon became one of Logan's suspects.

Next stop Philip, But I'll leave you to find out the rest.

This story gives each character a chance to write their own perspective. And the title,

"The Candy Makers" explains how each child must create their own candy, but in the end they must combined all their ideas, and work together.

Christian Perspective

I'm not exactly sure how I could write a christian perspective for this story, however one thing that I noticed was that God uses his people to work together. He is calling us to be united as a family of Christ, just like Logan and his three friends did. Another thing that I saw in this book was that even if someone has hurt you before, we need to forgive them, we must forgive them and try to forget.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed reading this book. Even though it may look a bit longer, that is no reason to turn it down. You will find your self drooling over all the delicious creations and reading chapters over just for the joy of it I got so attached to the book I forgot what was happening in my life, and stepped into the candy factory. Where Logan, Miles,Daisy, and Philip become part of your family I didn't want it to be over. I recommend this book to all candy lovers, and guess what? It doesn't even matter how much you don't enjoy reading.

The Characters of this story are Mr. Poe, Mrs. Poe, Count Olaf, Sunny, Violet, Klaus, Justice Strauss, Mr. & Mrs. Baudelaire.

Story Review
The Baudelaire family lived happily in there mansion. The Baudelaire family was very wealthy. The three Baudelaire children which were Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were all good at something. Violet was the inventor of the Baudelaire family, and when she was thinking of an invention, she would tie a ribbon around her hair so she could see, because her hair is too long. Klaus was the reader of the family, he has read more books than most people have in their whole life, and he remembers everything he reads. Sunny is an infant so she can’t do much, but she has four sharp teeth that she bites objects with. Briny beach is a nice place to be, but is crowded on nice days so the Baudelaire children go there on rainy, cloudy, or whatever bad weather condition so they have the beach to themselves. Violet likes skipping rocks and looking out at the horizon thinking of inventions. Klaus liked to look at the sea creatures that he learned about in his books.
Sunny liked to bite whatever she could find. Mr. Poe came to them to tell them the bad news that their parents their belongings and their mansion were all lost in a fire. They stayed at Mr. Poe’s house, then to their new guardian Count Olaf. They were dropped off at Count Olaf’s house. Right when they entered his house they noticed Count Olaf had a tattoo of an eye on his left ankle. When Mr. Poe left, Count Olaf put the Baudelaire Children to work. He made them cook for him and his theatre troupe. Justice Strauss is Count Olaf neighbour, and she has a library so Klaus liked it there, and she was nice. Count Olaf wanted the  Baudelaire children to be in a play he made called The Marvellous Marriage which was at his house, the
Baudelaire’s found it suspicious that he was being so kind. They knew he was going after the Baudelaire fortune, but how was a play going to help him. When he told them what part everyone was getting and how bad he wanted Violet to be the Bride and him to be the Groom, the Baudelaire’s got a clue. Klaus look it
up in a law book, it is legal for Count Olaf to marry violet as long as there are witnesses and a judge (Justice
Strauss agreed to be the judge not aware of what was happening), a signed document by the bride’s hand,
and permission from their legal guardian (Count Olaf). Count Olaf took Sunny and hung her from the roof of his house in a cage, and if the two Baudelaire’s didn’t go with the plan he would drop her. So the play went as planned till Violet was done signing the document Count Olaf let Sunny go and was laughing at the crowd for their stupidity. Then Violet said that it doesn’t count if she uses her left hand because bylaw it doesn’t count if it is not your writing hand and she is right handed so she wasn’t married to Count Olaf. Mr. Poe announced to the audience that Count Olaf will be arrested right away, but then Count Olaf turned off the lights and escaped with his troupe before anyone could get him. Know the Baudelaire’s would be safe...for now.

Christian Prospective
I think if they rewrote this book they should change the name because it seems depressing, and Christian books aren’t depressing, and how in every book the problem involves with someone dead because Count Olaf killed them. They could have made Count Olaf's name less intimidating like Mr. Wilson, and make him nicer, and make him Christian, and the Baudelaire’s unchristian so he could teach them about God, and who he was, and what he did. In the ending of every book the Baudelaire’s learn one or more valuable lesson about God. Maybe in the last book they will all be Christians spreading Gods word across the world.

Your Thoughts
I choose this book because some people told me about it so I decided to read it. I really liked this book and found it very interesting, because when something bad happens it takes a while for the writer to get to the point so I keep reading and reading till he finally tells me the whole point, then another bad thing happens so this keeps you interested till the end. I recommend this book to people that like mystery, fiction, horror, or books with no happy ending then this is the book for you.

Story review

The books name is Chasing the falconers. The main characters are Aiden and Meg Falconers and Miguel Reyes. Aiden and Meg are siblings and they meet Miguel during the escape and go on the run together. The setting of this book takes place in Sunnydale but since throughout the book they are on the run so the setting changes. While they were on the run they go through Vermont and Nebraska. The Theme of this book is adventurous because they are always on a adventure. It's called Chasing the Falconers because the Falconers are on the run and the FBI are chasing them



Aiden and Meg Falconers are at a juvenile detention farm called Sunnydale and their parents are in jail for life for something they didn't do. Aiden and Meg think that they can prove there parents are innocent. They live their whole lives not being able to talk to their family. An accidental fire happens at Sunnydale farm, during the fire Aiden and Meg make escape. There mission was to find frank lindenauer and prove their parents are innocent.

While they were on the run they meet Miguel. Miguel was accused of manslaughter because he pushed his (possibly abusive) stepfather down the stairs. It is unknown whether it was accidentally or purposely. When they reach there destination which is Vermont everyone didn't like them so one guy comes and attacks he shoots Miguel. So Aiden and Meg call 911 and make a run. They steal a ATV and drive into the forest. When the cops came they took Miguel to the hospital.


Christian Perspective

In my opinion I think this book was written from a christian perspective because It mention them praying a couple times. The characters is this book were not afraid to give their life for each other. Even though Aiden and Miguel were not siblings they were like brothers. They have such a deep love that one time in the book Miguel takes a bullet for Aiden.

My Thoughts

In my opinion this book was amazing. It is action filled and it really takes you through on a adventure. I really enjoyed reading this book. I chose this book because it stood out the most from all of the other books. I recommend this book to people who like adventurous and action filled books especially to people who have a big imagination.

Story review:

Catherine is a twelve year old, who has an autistic brother named David. With her brother’s autism it makes her life a little complicated, so she makes rules for her brother. So that he would understand the world and I also think this book’s name is Rules because she makes rules her brother.

While Catherine and her mom take David to occupational therapy, there she meets a boy named Jason. He cannot speak and has to use a wheelchair. He uses a communication book to communicate to people. In that book he has plain and boring looking words mentioned by Catherine herself. Catherine got a chance to make some words for him. The only thing she did differently was that she added colours to her cards. One day her friend Kristi asked if Jason would like to join Catherine to the community dance. The problem was that she never mentioned anything about Jason’s disability to Kristi. Because she didn’t know how Kristi would react.

By the end of the book, she begins to ask herself, what is normal? During the book, Catherine learns to accept herself, her family, and Jason just the way they are. She also learns not to be scared of what people think about her. The most important thing is that she learns to deal with her life and brother.

I think the themes of this book are acceptance and disabilities because Catherine had a hard time accepting David’s disabilities.

Christian perspective:

I don’t think this book was written from a Christian prespective. When Catherine felt alone and neglected by her parents, she should have went and prayed to God because God would never leave her and neglect her. We are his children and he loves us deeply and no matter what happens He would never abandon us. The other thing is that she still wished that her brother was normal but God made him that way and she should accept him just the way he is.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed the book. I liked how she learned to accept people just the way they are and that she shouldn’t be scared of what people think about her. I think Cynthia Lord was trying to tell her readers that no one is perfect. There are flaws in everybody, not just with people with special needs.We all try to make things perfect, but sometimes things don’t end up the way we want them to be. I would recommend this book to a person who loves realistic fiction books and especially those people who have to grow up with a brother or a sister with a disability.

Story Review

This title of this book is called “Kidnapped”, because Margaret, who’s 11 years old, gets kidnapped, and the Falconers gets involved with FBI, the police, and all the other criminologists.

Doctor John and Louise Falconer are the parents of Aiden who’s 15 years old and Margaret whose 11 years old and everyone thinks that the Falconers are the worst traitor because the Falconers helped the Horus global group which was the citizen’s “enemy”. The Falconers try to get back to normal, but it doesn’t go as smooth as the Falconers think.

One day Aiden and Meg were walking down an old downtown street, but suddenly there is a van that lurches toward Aiden and Meg. The sliding door opens, and a man who was wearing a spider Man mask tries to kidnap Aiden and Margaret. Aiden defends himself and gets out of the situation but his sister, Margaret gets kidnapped.

As soon as he realizes that his sister had been kidnapped, the Falconers get involved with FBI, the police, and all the other criminologists again. The Falconer’s closest friend, Agent Emmanuel Harris, also help the Falconers to find Margaret. Aiden tries to get involved as much as possible but his dad doesn’t let him.

While Aiden is still looking for his sister, Margaret tries to get out by trying many different ways, but doesn’t find the right way. Margaret remembers that Aiden talked about how people get “crazy” about flags, so she leaves a clue by trying to cut the rope, that holds the flag, with a broken piece of brick so that the flag will fly and give a clue to Aiden. On the flag it says “Commonwealth of Virginia”.

Aiden finds out now where Margaret is by finding the flag, but something goes wrong and the kidnappers tell the Falconers to place two million dollars in order to get Margaret back by 2 o’clock tomorrow.

Will the Falconers be able to get two million dollars by tomorrow at 2 o’ clock and get Margaret back, or will they ever see Margaret again?


Christian perspective

In my opinion, I don’t think this is a book that’s written from Christian perspective, because it’s about kidnapping for money and in the ten commandments it says “you shall have no others gods before me” and the gods represents money in this situation and it also says “Do not murder” and in the book, the kidnappers were going to kill Margaret by running over her if they did not get the two million dollars. Another thing is, the Falconers were in Juvenile and they became fugitives for eight weeks and it doesn’t have or say anything that has Christianity or other religions.


My thoughts

I choose this book, because it had lots of action, and adventures. I would have to figure out the clues and I would have to think about the next chapter. In my opinion, I enjoyed this book, and didn’t enjoy it at the same time, because it made you think about the next chapter and made you wanted to keep reading more, but I didn’t like how the endings were not detailed enough and how the ending was a little short. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, adventures, clues and all the mysteries that you have to search for.

Olivia's Book Review

This is an autobiography by Bethany Hamilton who was 13 years old when she wrote it. No one can explain Bethany’s passion to surf, even when one arm was gone, nothing could get between her and the ocean waves. When she was attacked, she stayed calm and had only one thought, “get to the beach!”. And when she came out of her surgery the first thing she said was “when can I surf again?” It is easy to tell that Bethany and the waves are meant to be together. This book is called Soul Surfer because when Bethany was attacked, she got right back into the water. And the meaning “soul surfer” in surf speak is “ I surfer who merely surfs for the love of the sport”.

In this book, Bethany talks about how her life was before the attack, and how she made adjustments to lifestyle after the attack. She talks about her family and friends, and most importantly, her faith in Jesus Christ. The main characters are Bethany, her mom and dad, her 2 brothers Noah and Timmy, her best friend Alana Blanchard and Alana’s family.


Christian Perspective:
There is a lot of Christianity in this book because Bethany, and her family, the Blanchard family, and most of her friends are all Christians. Bethany has a every strong relationship with God and she’s proud of it. She said that if God wasn’t with her during the attack, she probably wouldn’t have made it because God kept her calm. Bethany’s mom said that before the attack, they prayed all the time that God would use Bethany in huge ways, and they believe that God used and is still using her through attack. She grew up in a Christian home with Christian friends and family, and she said that even though she was taught about prayer, the bible, and went to youth group regularly, no one could make the decision of accepting Christ for her, because she said that putting your faith in God is something that each person has to do on their own and it’s your own personal relationship with him- a bond that is as unique as a finger print.

Your Thoughts:
I chose this book because I had heard a lot about Bethany Hamilton. I watched the movie and I wanted to see if the movie was accurate to the book. I really loved this book because it’s very inspirational, like in the book for example, she talked to a lot of kids who were missing limbs or had been diagnosed with cancer and after she talked to them they felt better and said that they didn’t need all of their limbs or that they were cancer free. I would recommend this book to people who had something go wrong in their life and I think her words would make them feel better too. I also recommend this book to people who like true inspirational stories.

Annie's Book Review

Walk Two Moons

The title of the book shows a main event in the book. It is a piece of a message from a mysterious character called the “potential lunatic.” This book is about a girl named Salamanca Tree Hiddle, nicknamed Sal. She lives with her mother and father on an old farm in Bybanks, Kentucky. Unexpectedly, her mother leaves to Lewiston, Idaho with no warning. This devastates Sal and her father and, as a result of this situation, her father does not want to stay on the farm. Her father decides to take her to Euclid, Ohio three hundred miles from Bybanks. This makes Salamanca very upset. Her father takes her to a mysterious woman named Margret in Euclid. And now she has to live in Euclid with her father.

Later on, Sal decides to go on a 2000 mile trip with her grandparents to Lewiston, Idaho They are going to find her mother for her birthday, in hopes to bring her back home and reunite the family. The day they got in the car to leave, she begins to tell her grandparents the story of Phoebe Winterbottom.

Phoebe is a peculiar girl that Salamanca met in school. They became good friends. Just as Sal’s mother disappears, Phoebe’s mother disappears as well. Phoebe goes to drastic measures to find her mother. She finds more messages and more clues along the way. But something strange happens. Phoebe begins to find strange messages from who she believes is, a “potential lunatic.” Will Sal bring her mother back? Will Phoebe find her mother? The story is full of excitement.

The story of Phoebe and the 2000 mile trip with Sal jumps back and forth. This makes the story more exciting and gives it more variety and suspense.

Christian Perspective

I don’t think that this book is made to be a Christian story. I think it focuses on adventure. Though it didn’t say anything against God, I think they could have changed the story to have God play a part in the lives of the main characters. Phoebe and Sal could have been praying about the situation asking for answers, but that may not keep the adventure in the story. It would calm down the situation and make it a lot less dramatic.

My thoughts

I chose this book because it was recommended to me by many people. I liked the book because it had a lot of variety. It had two stories at the same time - the one of Phoebe and the one with the trip to Idaho. This kept you on the look out for what happens next. It also adds excitement to the story when Phoebe gets the messages from the “potential lunatic.” You can decide what you think the message means because it doesn’t tell you anything about the person. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the story because I’m an eager reader. I would recommend this book to someone with an imaginative, adventurous mind because it is an adventure story and it lets you imagine what’s going to happen next before you read it.

Story review

Capricorn (cap) Anderson does not know what television is, and has never eaten a pizza in his life. He has lived in garland for most of his life and was home schooled by his grandmother who does not agree with the outside world at all. when his grandma (Rain) goes to the hospital because she falls off a tree trying to get a some fruit’s, and cap tries to drive his grandma to the hospital so she can get treated; he got caught by a cop for driving without a licence and being only 13 years of age.

And then he gets forced by the police who caught him driving, to stay with a guidance counsellor who used to live in garland back when she was little but she had move to the city with her parents. And when he goes the to the guidance counsellor house he meets her daughter, Sophie who does not like cap at all. And pours a bucket full of water on his head because he was doing yoga on the front porch. but after a couple of weeks they started getting along, and he started to teach her how to drive.


 And on his first week of school he gets elected president, just for a joke, and then he has to plane the Halloween dance so when he gets a check from the principle to use for the dance but of course he doesn't know what a checks is and how its used, and he thought that the money wont run out. And used most of it for charity. After a couple of weeks his grandma was free to go home so she went straight to here grandsons school to pick him up and go back to their farm (garland). 


so when the president left their was no one to organise the dance and no money left from the check that was for the dance. so the they had to cancel it. But the students figured a way to make this the best Halloween party ever. this books title was schooled and I think it is called that;cause it shows the experience that students have when their in middle school.       

Christian perspective  

Well this book was very good and it wasn’t from a Christian perspective but it wasn’t from a noun Christian perspective either, but the might of found a better way to deal with the problem. The Character should have asked the teachers or the principle what he was supposed to do, being president and all and what was expected of the president. The character dealt with the conflict in a godly way in the end so it turned out pretty good, And Capricorn Anderson became one of the greatest presidents in the history of C average middle school.

My thoughts

At the start I thought that this book was kind of confusing cause in every chapter it had a one of the characters in the book view of what was happening. But after a couple of chapters you’ll get used to it. and I challenge all book lovers to read this book and see how the story terns out to be.

Joey loves his parents and couldn’t have gone to a better home than there in Florida with the Campbell’s. He’s got everything a little boy his age would want. Including his dog named Gus. But now his biological parents want him back and there’s nothing the Campbell’s can do to keep Joey. Or is there?

Jack Campbell is a very successful man and very smart. He devises a way to get out of the country and hide somewhere with Joey and Molly where no one will find them, so they can keep Joey.  His plan goes smoothly and just when it’s about to work someone or something stops them.

Will Joey stay with the Campbell’s, the only family he’s ever known? Or will he have to go live with his biological parents? 

The book is titled “Like Dandelion Dust” because when the Campbell’s are thinking of their plan to keep Joey they see Joey pick up a dandelion and blow the dandelion dust (seeds) away. That’s when they decide to disappear like the dandelion dust. It’s also titled this because in the book both families (Campbell’s and Porter’s) learn that sometimes the greatest love is in letting go - like dandelion dust. The theme of this book is family issues that get thrown at us unexpectedly and how God can help us get through them even if we don’t think it’s possible.

Christian Perspective:

This book was written from a Christian perspective.  I think that Jack and Molly Campbell could’ve relied on God more as they were going through the custody battle but as the story progressed they started to see God more clearly in what was happening to them. The Campbell’s also had very close friends who were strong Christians, and that helped the Campbell's. But I’d say that the one who trusted God the most was Joey. Even though he didn’t understand what was happening he still had a strong faith.  And he always ended his prayers with “Gee this name, amen” instead of “Jesus name, amen”, because that’s what he heard whenever someone else said it!

My Thoughts:

I chose to read this book because it sounded like a good story and very interesting and I’ve read other books by Karen Kingsbury and I knew that she was a very good author. I liked this book because it’s about something that could happen in real life and how God can always help get us through it, and also because God and Christianity were considered important in the story. It was an amazing book and I couldn’t put it down! Karen Kingsbury is a very skillful writer who puts in good details. I would encourage others to read other books written by her! I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys reading because it’s a longer book, to someone who likes kids because this story is about Joey and he’s only 4 ½ in the story, and to someone who likes reading realistic fiction because this is something that could happen to a family in real life.

Story Review:
This book is about a girl named Heidi. That is why the book is called ''Heidi''. Anyways, the book takes place on her grandparents Alm, in the Swiss Alps. When heidi first got their (the first few days) she felt unconfortable and didn't feel rihgt. But after a while she started getting more used of it. She also got to call ed the Alm-Uncle, uncle instead of The Uncle, but just uncle. That made her more confortable to. There are a lot of characters but the main ones are probably Heidi, her grandparents and her cousin Klara. There is one guy who is named Herr Sesemann, that pops in an dout of the story. At the beginning of the story, Heidi gets sent to live with her grandparents on their Alm. Oh course, Heidi LOVES everyone! Her grandfather is a grouch, at the start of the movie. But then he starts knowing that Heidi will do whatever it takes to be a kind, willing person. This book doesn't have a a problem, but if it did then it would have to be the fact that the grandfather was no appreciated of Heidi.The solution to that would have to be then, during the middle/end of the book, the grandfather then realised how Heidi is helpful around the farm. Some of the important parts is that, Heidi learns how to work wiht animals, pray to God, go to school, and meet new friends along within' her life time in the Alps. The theme would be an adventurous time on a farm.


Christian Perspective:
This is definitly a Christian book because it talks about them praying to God, learning hymns formt he Bible, and going to Church/Sunday School. On Heidi's adventure, she helps teach others the Word of the Lord, pray for others who need healing, and just is a very thankful girl. I remember one part in the story, Heidi and Klara were drinking goats milk from a bowl and they both got a little bit, and Heidi was just so thankful and she thanked God no matter how much she got. I would be guessing that the author (Johanna Spyri) is a Christian, just because she wrote such a great Christian book. Heidi helped this one boy Peter learn the alphabet and she taught him in a Godly way and it rhymed wiht something to do wiht the bible.


My Thoughts:
I chose this book because my grandma said is was a great book, and so I gave it a try. Turns out, This is such a great book. I liked every chapter of it, and the only thing I disliked is how the grandfather would treat Heidi not so good like the grandmother did because Heidi was so caring for them and protective of them and the grandfather I didn't think realise that. I would recommend this book to people who love to read about how people grow up and learn about God and just live in a small community and where everyone is kind to each other. I think that Heidi would be a great commericial ad for living in the Swiss Alps.

Story Review:

I think this book is called “The Trenches” because it takes place in world war one which is known as the trench war. It is called the trench war because it was mostly trench fighting. This book mostly took place on the western front and the place where the main characters were fighting for was a place called Passchendaele ridge. The main characters in this book are Billy Stevens and his friends Rob, and Charlie. The problem in this book was that the Germans were getting too close to France and Britain so they had to drive the Germans back into Germany. They had a hard time defending themselves because the Germans were so dug in and both sides were losing thousands of men a day. Billy and Charlie were in the Royal Engineers the engineers laid cable and fixed the cables. Rob was in the infantry who fights in the trenches. In the beginning of this book the year was 1914 and when this book ended it was 1918. Four of Billy’s friends died in the war by an explosion or being hit by a piece of shrapnel and Rob died by disobeying orders. The reason Rob didn’t obey because when the whistle blew to go over the top of the trench Rob didn’t go because he thought it would be suicide so they tied him to a post and shot him. This book is about the men in world war one telling about the experiences they had.

Christian Perspective

I don’t think this book was written on a Christian perspective because when his friend died he said “thank God it wasn’t me” and if he was a Christian he would not be so scared to die. I think they are not also Christians because they will never pray and there was only one mention of God in the entire book and it wasn’t really that positive.

My thoughts

I chose this book because I enjoy studying history and especially the world wars and because it looked interesting and I don’t really like fiction books I only like realistic fiction or nonfiction. I really liked this book and even though it was fiction it still was realistic. I would recommend this book to anyone who is like me and enjoys studying history because it is not far off the truth.
