Plot

Johnny Milton aka spud is a normal fourteen-year-old boy who has been selected for a scholarship at a very expensive private school in South Africa. Where he meets his roommates/best buddies (Rambo, Mad dog, Henry, Simon Boggo, and Vern) for the rest of his school life. Together these seven teen-age boys form the crazy seven.

So together the Crazy seven endure life’s hardships in school and the party when they are over. Together they all survive the first year of high school but their high school career has only just begun.

Christian perspective

This book is not written from a christian perspective. But definitely contains some christian values and believes for example, the school they go to is a christian school and on campus there is a chapel which they attend every sunday and wednesday. But that does not mean they do everything in a Christ like way. They are fourteen-year-old boys and they get into a lot of mischief.

My thoughts

The book was a very good. It was full of action and humor and I would definitely recommend it to boys that like humor and adventure in a book.

Story Review:

Jeri McKane, a sixth grader at the Landmark Boarding school for girls, didn't think her life could get any worse after her mom informed her that she wouldn't be able to come to parent's weekend.  Jeri had been counting down the days on her calendar until she could she her mom again, only to have all her excitement vanish in an instant.  Jeri felt sorry for herself all the way to dinner, but then noticed that her roommate Rosa didn't show up.  She was supposed to be back hours ago from her art fieldtrip . . . so where could she be?

As Jeri was starting to worry, the Headmaster stood up to make an announcement.  As Jeri found out that the van carrying the students was missing, she could scarcely breathe.  Possibilities flooded into her mind about what could have happened to them.  As the Headmistress continued, Jeri and her friends found out that the van had been seen entering a two - mile stretch, but never came out.  That meant two possibilities for Jeri - either they drove up the mountain, or into the lake.  A search party was formed to start looking and a few students, including Jeri, went along.  They brought warm beverages and food to those looking as the temperatures started to drop. Jeri couldn't imagine how cold Rosa would be!  Jeri was certain that what they needed was an investigator and reporter, so she called up Jake, someone who had visited their school a while back.  But Jake found out just about as much information as everyone else.

Jeri was determined to do something, so she started investigating herself.  Nothing seemed to line up for Jeri, and nothing was making any sense. Jeri started to feel hopeless, but kept persevering and working hard.  Will Jeri uncover any clues? Will they find the bodies in the lake?  Will the mystery ever be solved?  This book is titled Vanished because the school van and all the students inside suddenly vanish and no one knows where they went.  The book has a theme of suspense and intrigue, and really keeps you on your toes!

Christian Perspective:

This book was written from a Christian Perspective because Jeri goes to a Christian Boarding School and often prays throughout the book.  Jeri really dealt well with the problems that faced her and never got angry with God for anything.  This book really taught me that I have to keep trusting in God even if all hope seems lost.  It also taught me that God doesn’t forget about us and that he’s always keeping us safe and watching over us.  The story was really encouraging at times and I thought it had a lot of Christian value in it.  I think that the author really used her writing to get the meaning through to the readers that God will never forsake us.

   

My Thoughts:

I chose this book because it looked interesting and because it wasn’t too long.  I thought that this book was well written and really enjoyed it because it had a clever plot and never made me bored.  I would recommend this book to grade six or seven girls because at times I felt like it was written for a younger audience.  I would especially recommend it to girls who need encouragement in their faith and who like mysteries.  Overall it was a really good book!

Story Review

 The reason that this book is called “Titanic: Collision Course” is because this book is about the titanic, and the Titanic accidentally goes on a “collision course”. This book starts on Friday, April 12^th, 1912, 4:50 PM, and ends on Monday, April 15th, 1912, 12:09 AM. The main characters in this book are Paddy Burns, Sophie Bronson, Juliana Glamm, Alfie Huggins, and Jack the Ripper. The main problem in this book is that the Titanic crashes into an iceberg, and that Jack the ripper is trying to kill people. In this book, Paddy Burns is running away from the guards on the boat, because he is an accidental stowaway. Alfie Burns thinks that he has found Jack the Ripper. He thinks that he is a man named Robert Masterson, but everyone else isn’t sure. Is Mr. Masterson Jack the Ripper? Read the book and find out. The theme in this book is that even if you’re a child, you can still do important things. The main good guys in this book are all children, and they help save lots of lives.

Christian Perspective

This book is not written in a Christian perspective. In this book, sometime some of the characters misuse God’s name. There is a bit of violence in this book, and lots of peril. Quite often in this book the children disobey what they are told to do, and Paddy Burns repeatedly breaks the law.

My Thoughts

The reason that I chose this book is because I like the author Gordon Korman, and this book is by him. This book is really good. It has everything: peril, violence, drama, intensity etc. I would recommend this series (there are 3 of these books) to anyone that likes adventure books.

This story is mainly about Jared Grace, his twin brother Simon Grace and his sister Mallory Grace. Because his dad had left his mom, his family had to stay at his great aunt Lucinda’s house.

The house was very old the doors were faded gray, worn with age and it was almost considered as a shack. This book is called

Spiderwick because their great great uncle Arthur spiderwick had wrote the Guide. The guide was the secret to all things. Since the people didn’t know about the creatures, the creatures wanted to destroy it because they didn’t want people to know about it.

        Jared hated the house, the house looked like it was falling apart and he could hear something inside of the wall rustling.

Jared couldn’t sleep so he shook his twin brother awake.

Mallory was in the lead walking a few paces and stopping to listen then she swung the boom handle at the wall. The wall was broken into piece. The three of them could still hear the noise. Simon pointed out, “look!” he bent down to touch a small door.

It was a dumbwaiter. The dumb waiter took Jared to the small library there it was a chest. Inside there was square bundle, wrapped in dirty cloth and it was a field Guide.

        Since Jared found the book everything started to change. Goblins had kidnapped his brother Simon, troll wanting to eat them and ferries who wanted to make them a hostage. Will they keep the book safe?

Theme: fantasy, adventure and mystery

Christian perspective: This book was not written in Christian perspective. It was based on magical book and magical creatures. One thing that Jared should have done in Christian way was when he got scared and woke his brother up he should have prayed. In the book of Psalm 34:4 says, “I sought the lord, and he answered me, he delivered me from all my fears.” When Jared was complaining about his great aunt’s house he should have been thankful and gracious.

My thoughts: I chose this book because this book had fantasy and adventure in it. I really enjoyed reading this book because the creatures had very unique names and some of them made me laugh. One thing that stood out to me the most was when Jared wanted to save his brother Simon and it really showed how he cared for him. Recommend this book to a person who likes reading an adventure and fantasy.

The reason that this book is called the Hunger Games is because in the book there is a contest to the death and the contest is called “The Hunger Games” The main Characters in this book are Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. This book is set in District 12 And the Capital. This book is set in the future with elements of the past. The main problem in this book is that Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are chosen to go to the Hunger Games, and only one person can win in the Hunger Games. This book starts out in District 12, where Katniss lives. Life there is horrible for everyone, and annually, they choose two people form each of the 12 districts to go to the Hunger Games. The two people form district 12 for the 74^th annual Hunger Games, are Peeta and Katniss. They go to the Capitol and stay there for a while, and eventually, the Games start. The theme in “The Hunger Games” is who has the power. In this book, everyone is controlled by the Capitol. That’s why the Capitol made the Hunger Games. To show that they can do anything to anyone, even take their children away and put them in a battle to the death.

Christian Perspective

The problem with this book is that all it’s about is killing. Because of that, it is a very violent book. This book would not be appropriate for younger readers, because of the gruesome, descriptive violence. There are a lot of times where Katniss could have prayed to God and asked him what to do. Also, that is sort of what life would be like without God, in the future.

My Thoughts

The reason that I chose this book is because almost 20 people recommended it to me. They were all telling me to read it, so I did. It is a great book! I would recommend it to anyone who is allowed to read it. One of the things that I liked about it is how intense it is. It is very gripping and entertaining. It’s so dramatic and violent. I would recommend it to anyone who is allowed to read it. It is just amazing.

My thoughts

I really liked thisbook and would recommend it to any one that likes action ,adventure and fantasyall in one book I learned a lot about Greek mythology.

Story Review:

When Professor William Waterman Sherman gets tired of his teaching job in San Francisco, he plans a yearlong adventure in a hot-air balloon. He wants to spend some time to himself away from everyone, and decides that he will cross the Pacific Ocean. It seems like the perfect getaway, but after just three weeks he is found almost dead in the Atlantic Ocean, along with the remains of twenty hot-air balloons. The world is eager to know how he ended up in the wrong ocean and with so many balloons, only to have him keep it a secret. He wants his fellow explorers back at the Western American Explorers’ Club in San Francisco to be the first to know due to a code of ethics. So the world will just have to wait until he can get back to the club in San Francisco to hear his tale. But I guess I can tell you just a bit of his secret, right?

The Professor had happily been traveling for just under a week when he spotted an island with a huge mountain in the distance. He decided that he needed to gain altitude in order to clear the mountain so he threw his garbage from the past couple of days overboard. The seagulls that were in the sky dove for the food, and one brought some meat onto the top of his balloon. The birds went crazy over it and the professor ended up with a tear in his balloon. As he plummeted towards the water, he desperately tried to throw everything overboard in order to stay in the air long enough until he could reach the island. He finally detached the basket itself and hung onto the strings attached to the balloon with just enough time to reach the island.

Relieved and feeling completely alone, he jumped at the sound of a voice. It just so happened that twenty families live on this island and one person had been waiting there for him since he was spotted in the air. It turned out that the people on the island of Krakatoa were not going to let him leave, because then their secrets would be revealed to the world. During his stay on the island of Krakatoa, the Professor learns of the secrets that they don’t want the world to know about – first of all, that there is life on the island, and second of all, that the island is covered with diamond mines. As he lives on the island with these families, he becomes familiar with their way of life and culture. The title is “The Twenty-One Balloons” because of the one balloon he starts out with and the twenty he ends up with. The themes throughout the book are adventure and a little bit of suspense. How does the Professor end up in the awful situation as mentioned before? I guess you’ll have to read the book and find out!

Christian Perspective:

Although this book isn’t written from a Christian perspective, we can still learn a lot from it. Just like the Professor needed a break from his teaching job to do something he enjoyed, we sometimes need a break from our busy lives to spend time with God. Time with God is very important and we need to make sure that we use that time to deepen our faith. It is also important that we keep our promises to God just as He keeps his promises to us. In the book the Professor kept his oath to his explorer’s club even though it would have been tempting to let the story slip to some news reporter or investigator. God is loyal to us and we need to be loyal to Him, just as the Professor had loyalty. We are committed to God, and he should be the centre of our life. Another lesson I learned from the book is that you have to work together if you want to succeed. The people on the island wouldn’t have been able to survive if they hadn’t cooperated with each other. We need to learn to work with each other in a way that pleases God, and to love and respect one another in all we do and say.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was well thought out by the author. It had a very clever story line with twists and turns along the way. This is a book that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good adventure because it’s all about exploring and traveling. This book left me wondering about what would happen next the whole time, and although it was a little slow at the beginning I still had lots of fun reading it. I chose this book because a classmate recommended it to me and it looked interesting. My overall opinion of the book is that it’s funny, well planned out, and very engaging once you get into it. I really liked this book, and I hope you will too!

Ben wan an only child until his parents brought home an 8-month old chimpanzee named Zan. Bens parents were scientists. They bought Zan from a zoo to see if they could learn language. Since chimps cannot speak, they taught him American sign language.

 Soon, they government lost interest in Project Zan and they cut the funding. Zan was growing much too big and much too strong to stay with Ben and his family. So, they had no choice but to sell Zan to a chimp ranch. 

Soon Ben  and his family see that Zan is not safe there. They realize they have to get Zan back somehow. The ranch owner refuses to let them buy Zan back. They see that the only way to get Zan back is to steal him.

Christian Perspective

I dont think this book was written in a Christian perspective because they didnt pray when they could have. They could have prayed for the Government to keep funding the project

or they could have prayed for the money. Also once in the book they try and steal Zan and that is no what a Christian should do. They could have prayed that the chimp ranch owner would let them buy Zan back.

My Thoughts

I really liked this book. I did because I liked animals and I like the author. It has a very good story line. It is funny in some parts. It is sometimes suspenseful and you dont know what is going to happen next. I recomend this book to anyone who likes animals because it is about chimps.

Story Review: I think this book is called The Capture because Soren(main character)was captured by St. Aegolius Academy. This book takes place in the forest of Tyto where the barn owls home land is. Before Soren was captured by St.Aegolius Academy patrol his life was perfectly normal. He had a new baby owl sister and his older brother Kludd and of course his mom and his dad. Because of his evil brother. He was taken to the dark frightening canyon called orphanage. He and his friend Gylfie suspects that it’s going to get far worse… To escape, the will need to try something new; fly. Along the way Soren and Gylfie bumps into Digger and Twilight, together they seek the truth and face unthinkable danger.

My thoughts I chose this book because a friend of mine recommended to me. I liked this book because it had a lot of adventures and mysteries in it. And I also enjoyed the part when the four bands of owls work together and seek the truths. In my opinion this book is a great I really enjoy reading how Soren reacts to his problem and solving it. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about adventures and mysteries

Christian perspective: some of the reasons why I don’t think this book is written from a Christian perspectives are, does not include anything from the bible, it doesn’t include anything about what would Jesus do. And it could have been written with a lot more Godly in it

Story Review:

If you ever think about surviving in a forbidden region bound in snow, it usually means thinking about death! You can’t build a fire while it’s snowing and no one will even think about looking for you in such area, because of the weather. However, what makes it even worse is that if you’re stuck with someone you absolutely hate. Harry Mazer describes the tough survival of the lost Cindy and Tony in the forbidden Tug Hill Plateau near New York State in mid-January, 1970’s, as they were bound and put into the hands of what seams to be an endless cold snow storm of misery in Tug Hill, hence the title “Snow Bound”. This book was written in themes of survival, urgency, and change, because young teens were changed, desperate, turned around 180 degrees through the effects and discoveries of survival, and always feeling the urgency to find a way out of disaster!

Tony was a spoiled teen with attitude. He always got what he wanted and came from a family that was very high-tempered and aggressive. As he wandered through the streets, looking for a change in his life through his surroundings, he found a lost dog and instantly developed a deep connection with him. He decided to take him home. When Tony asked his father if he could keep the dog, the first word that went on his father’s mouth was NO! They had a huge argument, until Tony decided to secretly keep him. Later at night, the landlords were disturbed by the dog and Tony’s father got rid of it. Tony got so frustrated and angry at his father when he found out, because he loved that dog and it was gone. He said he wanted to “teach his father a lesson”, so he took his mom’s car and decides to drive in the severe storm all the way to his uncle in Canada behind his family’s back!

On the other side there was Cindy, a quite, aloof, and independent girl, who came from a rich and very musical family. Her only problem was that she was a hitchhiker which led her to danger. As she waited in the bus stop for the bus to Watertown, she was angry at the fact that there could be a delay of 2-3 hours. She decided to hitchhike behind her grandma’s back and it just so happened that the second car to stop by was Tony’s. She got in the car and there was an awkward silence between them. The storm started getting worse and worse and the visibility lower and lower. When Tony pretended to know where he was going to calm Cindy down, a vicious blow of snow took their sight away and Tony went out of control with the car. As they were violently bumped into rocks and fields, they hit what they didn’t except to find! They hit a huge rock that threw the car half up in the air and then the car came back down!

They were shocked and unbelievably hurt. They wasted a lot of time bickering with each other and assigning blame. They were on their last nerves and were freaking out. They were in the middle of no where without any sources, it was impossible for them to leave the car in this weather, and the worst thing was that the car engine wasn’t going neither was the heater! They needed fire. They argued over starting a fire inside the car, but it was settled. At least, there had to be a small fire for survival. For that they used a cigarette lighter found in the car and paper. Now there was another problem, food! After they started to get along a little bit, Tony decided he was going to go on a journey to find something, just anything to help them live. During his search, after days of struggles, fear of vicious attacks, and suffering, he lost hope and started praying desperately until he found it! He found a stream of water that led him to an old, abandoned cabin. This was the best moment of his life as he found in there furniture and lots of food. He stayed for another day and came back to the patiently waiting Cindy. They were overfilled with joy. They took what could be useful and left. When they found the cabin, they thought it was impossible for anything horrible to happen again, only until they left.

Tony broke his ankle and they got in a huge fight! Without thinking, Cindy decided to leave him because that was what he asked for. That was it; they were tired of the constant arguments and didn’t think any of this through. However, when she heard the cry of Tony, she stopped and turned to look at what could’ve been the end of their lives, a wolf! She ran, pulling Tony on the sled behind her! When they got far away, they realized that they left everything behind them and that they didn’t have any tools of survival. He stood up with one hand on a stick and put the other hand over Cindy’s shoulder to keep his balance. They walked and walked in the unending forest with new hope. Hope that wouldn’t have been there if they didn’t realize that the only tool of survival they had left was nothing except each other! Did they ever find anything again, or were they found by someone? If not what would’ve been their last actions or words to each other?


Christian Perspective:

This book was not written in a Christian perspective, however, Tony did pray once in his journey to the cabin. What was not Christ-like what so ever would’ve been Tony’s attitude! He had a rejecting, selfish, and proud attitude that developed hate and caused many problems – him running away, being rude and vicious with Cindy, and getting lost in the first place. Also, the way Cindy left him showed carelessness from her not Christ’s love. However, they did both learn their lesson at the end. Hate brings foolishness and love brings hope. Without Cindy coming back to save him from the wolf and both of them accepting each other, there would’ve been no hope except now in that case.


My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book very much! I chose this book, because I enjoy reading adventure and realistic fiction. I’ve enjoyed the Hatchet and I wondered what the storyline of survival would be like if it were a group of people instead of one person alone. The reason this book is very interesting is that it describes how tough it is to survive with someone else if you don’t put your differences in how you do things aside. The author did an amazing job especially in leaving behind the reader with a question in his/her mind at the end of each chapter that he/she will be desperate to find the answer for! The author used very descriptive words with good connotation and used lots of similes, metaphors, and personification. I learned a lot about the hardships of survival and some new techniques on surviving in the winter. I recommend this book to those who enjoyed reading the Hatchet, because if you did that shows you were interested in the theme of survival. You’ll be very engaged in this book as there is more dialogue because there are two lost people not just one. I hope you enjoy the book!

Story Review

13 year old Lucy Hoffman has to move to Africa with her mom because her mom accepted a job as an American Ambassador, while her father stays in Indonesia with the World Bank. Her mom is very protective and won’t let her go anywhere accept for school. Her best friends are Teddy, Tana, and Iskinder who works in the residence.
Her mother always makes her come to boring dinners for her work, but one day Lucy and Tana decide to sneak out to a café called Mmmm My Flavour. While they are there, Dawit her driver, comes to the café and tells them that he is supposed to take them home. They’re busted! Dawit drops Tana off and is going to take Lucy home, but all of the sudden Lucy notices that they’re not going the right way but Dawit doesn’t listen, she gets frantic and yells at him to pull over. He swirves over and a man gets in the car and knocks her out.
The next thing she knows, she’s in a dark room and she bruised and hungry. After a few days of being there, eating nothing but ingera and water to drink, she finds out who kidnapped her. Marcos is the mean leader and Helena and Dawit are just in it for the money. Lucy realizes that she will die if she doesn’t make a run for it, so she gets out through a window and runs as fast as she can until she get to the jungle in the distance. She hides in a tree until her abductors are gone, then she goes off to find a river. She decides to follow the river and hopefully it will lead to a village. On her way she has to hide from her abductors, find food, and watch out for animals. Will she find her way home? Will she die by animals? Or will Marcos, Helena, and Dawit find her?

Christian Perspective
This book wasn’t written in a Christian perspective but Lucy (the main character) had heard about God before and sometimes did a little prayer of thanks or when she was in trouble. Since this book wasn’t written in a Christian perspective, Lucy could have dealt her problems with her mother by trying to understand why her mother was so over protective. She could have not run off to the café or markets and obeyed her mother.

Your Thoughts
I really liked this book because it was an adventure book so it was really interesting and there was never a dull moment. Another reason I liked this book was because it was inspired by a true story of a 12 year old girl in Ethiopia who was kidnapped for a week until she decided to escape. She ran into the jungle where she met three lions they chased off her abductors and surrounded her for several hours until the police arrived. I would recommend this book to people who like adventures and suspense.

Plot:

Part one of this book gives a introduction on the activities and characters of the Scorpia operation. When Zeljan Kurst arrived in London, MI6 became very suspicious and followed him to the British Museum. At the museum the MI6 operation failed and Scorpia agents assassinated all the MI6-agents. Despite high alert throughout the whole city to find the Scorpia agent he escapes with a brilliant disguise.

Part two takes up the majority of the book. Here the reader gets introduced to Alex and MI6 as well as the conflict with Scorpia and their agents. Meanwhile Alex Rider is trying to live a normal live again, but once a spy, always a spy. This means he will never have his old live back. At school his class comes under attack by a sniper. Alex follows the sniper to an old a house where he managed to disable the getaway helicopter. To his dismay the sniper and his accomplice were already gone. With all their agents killed MI6 recruits him again.

Scorpia helped Julius escape from prison to kill Alex, as a distraction to Alex. Scorpia tries to bring disgrace to England, steal and return the Elgin Marbles to Greece. It seems to be the end of Alex’s career and life....

Julius Grief is a character from the second book of the Alex Rider series. He was created in a lab by his “father” Hugo Grief hoe wanted to duplicates of the worlds most wealthy men‘s sons. Fortunately Alex stopped him and Hugo was killed in the proses. Now Julius would do any thing to get revenge.

Julius should forgive Alex and forget about it, and go on with his live. Or listen to his prison psychiatrist that could have helped him with his problem with Alex and help him continue with his live. He chose neither and escaped from his prison and tried to kill Alex but got killed him self.

What did I think about the book and who should read it:

This book and the rest of the Alex Rider series is brilliant and I would recommend it to any one who likes action packed books. I would also recommend to start by reading the first book in the series an work trough them sequentially.
