The reason why the books is called the summit series ’72 is because in the summit series ’72 Canada had eight games that put Canada on top of the hockey world. These games took place in Moscow and a little in Europe. The team Canada hockey players were Brad Park, Paul Henderson, Winger j.p. parise, tony esopsito and ken Dryden there coach was named Sinden. The Canadians at first was the world’s greatest hockey team ever but all of Canada knew that already so they didn’t pay attention to them instead they watched the NHL (Nation Hockey League) while Canada was busy with the NHL. The Russian hockey team was being assembled soon when the Russian team was ready the time came when Russia was to face Canada but no Canadian was caring after the the game the people all over Canada were surprised that Canada lost. So Canada was no long top of the hockey world. Soon Canadians gathered NHL players and formed a hockey team. The team players did not know each other so when they faced Russia they lost and became 4^TH place Canadians hated their own hockey team. But then the team practiced together and then when the summit series began the where playing against Russia. They played against them many times but in the final game they won and Canada was back on top.

Christian perspective

The thing I saw in this book is that the Canadian hockey team had perseverance and they will win them and faith they will win even if their own country goes against them. I recommend this book to any Christian because it teaches a lot of things

My thoughts

I recommend this book to people who love hockey or love the Canadian hockey team I think it’s a good because it’s easy to read and its is clear and the book has a good story line.

Story Review:

Jane Goodall herself wrote this book and she tells us her story. Jane was born in London on April 3, 1934. She lived in England with her mom, dad, and younger sister Judy, till she was 5 years old. Then they moved to France. But when WWII started it was no longer safe to live in France, so they moved back to England.

When she was 7 years old she read “The Story of Doctor Dolittle”. That’s when she decided that she had to go to Africa someday. She became very interested in animals and she started to study animals near her home- squirrels, birds, and all kinds of insects. She spent a lot of time with horses and taught tricks to her dog Buds and her neighbours dog Rusty.

After she finished school she lived with a family in Germany for a few months, because her mom wanted her to visit the country that had been their enemy during the war. When she moved back to England she went to school in London to become a secretary, because her mom had told her that secretaries could work anywhere in the world.

One day Jane received a letter from her old school friend, Clo. Clo’s parents had bought a farm in Kenya and Clo invited Jane to visit. Finally Jane’s dream had come true. She was going to Africa!

While she was in Africa she got a job. She was a secretary for Louis Leakey. Louis was an anthropologist and paleontologist (in other words, he studied animals and Early Man). When Jane had raised enough money she sent a check to her mom so she could come to Africa.

Louis Leakey had told Jane of some chimpanzees he heard of living in Tanganyika. Jane wanted to go and study these chimpanzees. Through many struggles, Jane was able to go and study the chimpanzees, and her mom was with her for a while. Jane tells us all about what she did and what she learned.

There’s the constant theme of adventure in this book as Jane talks about some amazing experiences she had in the jungle. She traveled a lot and her life was far from dull. The book is titled “My Life with the Chimpanzees” because the book is about Jane’s life studying the chimpanzees.

Christian Perspective:

Jane talks about going to church regularly and stuff like that but she never actually says that she’s a Christian. But it would’ve taken A LOT of courage to go live in the wild with the chimpanzees. Christians need that type of courage. God gives us courage like that. Studying animals in the wild also takes a lot of patience. Patience is definitely a gift from God. Unfortunately, not a lot of people have that gift. At least, that’s what it seems like.  We can learn a lot from Jane’s life.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book. Sometimes autobiographies can be a little slow or boring but Jane wrote in a way that makes you want to keep going. She connects with the reader. I choose this book because I’ve heard a lot about Jane’s life and it sounded very interesting, so I wanted to find out for myself what her whole story was.  I’d recommend this book to someone who loves animals or someone who wants to work with animals when they’re older because that’s what Jane did. Almost everybody’s heard of Jane Goodall but I encourage you to read the book anyways because she has some amazing stories!

Thura's Diary

Story review

Well Thura’s diary is about war in Iraqi, Baghdad and how Thura saw it in her own eyes. Thura was just like every other girl before the war started. So when it started she too started to write a diary. The diary was about what was going in the war and what her and her family went through to stay alive. So after they spent a while in Iraqi, Baghdad they saw that it was getting worse and that most of their friends and neighbours where leaving for some where safer. So they left for the country side to their nephew house.

When Thura and her family got there most of her other relatives were there too. So they worked together and helped each other out, and Thura learned a lot of new things from her relatives. After a while Sedam Hussein was killed in the war by the Americans, so by the time the war ended Thura and her family went back to Iraqi and went on with their lives. Most schools were closed and destroyed; even her father couldn't go back to work. 

Even after the war ended life in Baghdad became harder and there was less freedom. Women had to where headscarf's so that they can be safe. So Thura's diary was turned and made into a book when she was 20 years old and it became published. Some of it was on the times newspaper in UK. This all happened about 10 years ago in Baghdad, but know it’s not as bad. So the title for this book is named Thura’s diary because before it became a book it was her diary so that's probably why she named it that.

Christian prospective

This story isn’t from a Christian’s point of view but more from a Muslims. But even so it was still a good book to read. Thura went through a lot, but even though she still had hope that one day she could have the freedom she had back then. So this book thought me that I should be glad that I don’t have to go through war and, be in the middle of it trying to stay alive. So I hope that as Christians that we are thankful of where we live and that we are in a free country.    

My thoughts

Thura’s diary thought me many things and it showed me how people who have to go through war fell like. So I think that this book is good to read and it teaches you more about what other people have to go through. I choose this book because I thought it would be interesting to see what happens in war and what Thura felt like. For all those people who enjoy peoples stories and their thoughts. I recommend this to you all peoples.

Story review
Born without arms or legs, Nick felt lonely, worthless, depressed, and resentful to God. The title of this book “Life without limits” represents that even though you seem to be worthless; you can still make changes in other people’s lives and give them hope.

Nick was born on December 4, 1982 and everyone was expecting Nick to be a healthy fine baby. Nick was his parents’ first born child, so his mother was very careful with him, but when Nick was born, everyone was shocked, disappointed, and could not except the truth. Instead of celebrating his birth, everyone was sad, in tears and thinking if God is a God of love, why would He let this happen.

Nick wasn’t depressed until the age of 8, when he realized he wasn’t “normal”. His parents kept encouraging him that God has a plan for him one day, and God didn’t make a mistake on him, but he was hopeless whenever anyone made fun of him. Nick believed that God could do miracles, and he had seen lots of miracles, but he didn’t understand why God wouldn’t perform miracles on him. Many nights, Nick would pray to God to give him at least one arm. He would go to sleep crying and dreaming that the next day God would show him a miracle. But it never happened.

It was when Nick was 15 years old, when he started to ask God for his guidance and his direction. One day he went to a church in California, and as he entered in his wheelchair, someone was calling him. He didn’t recognize the voice, but when he turned around he saw a young man holding a baby. When Nick came closer, he saw a shining brown hair and a big gap-toothed baby smiling. That baby was just like Nick. He had no arms or legs and had a little foot on his left just like Nick. Just by looking at the baby, Nick was amazed.

Nick realized that God didn’t do miracles on Nick, so that he can be a miracle to others and give them hope. God’s plan for Nick wasn’t to harm him; it was so that he could encourage others who are like Nick and to show that God has a plan for everyone. Nick realized that his career was to be a missionary by traveling around the world to encourage others and to make difference in other people’s lives.

Christian perspective

In my opinion, this book definitely reflects Christianity. This book talks about that even though you have struggles in your lives; God will help you and will not forsake you. It also talks about that God has a purpose for everyone and has bigger plans than we think, even though we might not understand at first. Even though Nick didn’t have arms or legs, he started to thank God for what he had already had, and not being angry for what he didn’t have. At first, Nick didn’t understand why he was on earth, but God showed him by step by step and kept him safe, because God knew that Nick could handle it.

Your thoughts

I enjoyed this book very much, because it taught you a lot. It gave stories, examples, and other great life lessons that I learned. It made me think about my life, and how I should be thankful for the things that I already have. It also made me think about God, how He has plans in my life and He only gives me what I can handle. I chose this book, because I love autobiography, and reading other people’s lives to see what experience they had. I would recommend this to anyone who feels like they’re worthless; want to give up their life, because there are greater plans in the future!

Story Review

The reason that this book is titled "Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl" is because this book is written by Anne Frank and it is her diary that she wrote during world war two.

Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 to her parents Otto Frank and his wife Edith in Germany. She also had an older sister, named Margot. These and The people they live with(Mr. and Mrs.Van Daan and their son,Peter) are the main characters. This book takes place from when Anne is 13, and it ends right before she turns 16,so from the years 1942 to 1945.

At the beginning of this book, Anne is living in her house with her family and is very happy. This book starts on her birthday, the day she gets her diary. As shes writing, she decides that she will write her diary to an imaginary friend named Kitty. She loves her diary because it is the only place where she can express all of her real opinions and thoughts about everything. Anne loves to write and is very happy with her life.

But then her family is forced to go into hiding because Anne's sister, Margot, has been summoned for deportation, which means she would have to go on a train and be taken to a concentration camp. They go into hiding in the office where her father works, in the back rooms that nobody knows are there. They stay there and are well for about two years, until the Germans come and force the people working in the building to tell them where Anne's family is hiding. These are people who have been helping them get food and supplies from the outside world.

Anne and her family are taken to a concentration camp, but the men and women have to go in different places, so she and her father are separated, but she manages to stay with her mother and sister. They stay in little houses with about 4 other women. The houses are infested with lice, so after not very long, they all have lice ,too. The prisoners have to spend 12 hours a day digging sod. Anne stayed in the the camp for almost a year, before she passes away from exhaustion and starvation. Her mother died several months before and her sister had died a couple of days before. Anne died three months before she would have been sixteen. Her father was the only one in their family who survived the concentration camp.

Months after, he returned to Amsterdam. One of the neighbors gave him Annes diary and sketches, which had been left behind when they were taken. At first, he just kept them as a memorial but then he had them published, with the help of a professor, and many revised versions had also come out in the following years.

My Thoughts

I chose this book because i had read different, shorter, versions of this book and wanted to know some more details about Anne Franks life. I liked this book because it shows what it was really like during world war two, from a pespective that i could relate to. I also liked that at the end of this specific copy of the book, it gives the story again, but way shorter, with all of the facts that were unclear in the actual diary. The themes in this book were perserverance and how violence can affect childrens life negatively.

Recommendation

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes factual books because this book is full of interesting information and facts. I would also recommend it to anyone who likes reading auto-biographies.

Christian Perspective

I am not sure if this book was written in a christian perspective or not, because since it is a diary, Anne would have to be a christian for it to have been. But some of the traits she had were christian, like optimism, hope, and always caring about the safety of her family. As a christian, I think that just like Anne perserveered thruogh all of the hardships and always did her very best, we should be our best through christ and in our every day lives.

Olivia's Book Review

Story Review:
This is an autobiography by Bethany Hamilton who was 13 years old when she wrote it. No one can explain Bethany’s passion to surf, even when one arm was gone, nothing could get between her and the ocean waves. When she was attacked, she stayed calm and had only one thought, “get to the beach!”. And when she came out of her surgery the first thing she said was “when can I surf again?” It is easy to tell that Bethany and the waves are meant to be together. This book is called Soul Surfer because when Bethany was attacked, she got right back into the water. And the meaning “soul surfer” in surf speak is “ I surfer who merely surfs for the love of the sport”.

In this book, Bethany talks about how her life was before the attack, and how she made adjustments to lifestyle after the attack. She talks about her family and friends, and most importantly, her faith in Jesus Christ. The main characters are Bethany, her mom and dad, her 2 brothers Noah and Timmy, her best friend Alana Blanchard and Alana’s family.


Christian Perspective:
There is a lot of Christianity in this book because Bethany, and her family, the Blanchard family, and most of her friends are all Christians. Bethany has a every strong relationship with God and she’s proud of it. She said that if God wasn’t with her during the attack, she probably wouldn’t have made it because God kept her calm. Bethany’s mom said that before the attack, they prayed all the time that God would use Bethany in huge ways, and they believe that God used and is still using her through attack. She grew up in a Christian home with Christian friends and family, and she said that even though she was taught about prayer, the bible, and went to youth group regularly, no one could make the decision of accepting Christ for her, because she said that putting your faith in God is something that each person has to do on their own and it’s your own personal relationship with him- a bond that is as unique as a finger print.

Your Thoughts:
I chose this book because I had heard a lot about Bethany Hamilton. I watched the movie and I wanted to see if the movie was accurate to the book. I really loved this book because it’s very inspirational, like in the book for example, she talked to a lot of kids who were missing limbs or had been diagnosed with cancer and after she talked to them they felt better and said that they didn’t need all of their limbs or that they were cancer free. I would recommend this book to people who had something go wrong in their life and I think her words would make them feel better too. I also recommend this book to people who like true inspirational stories.

Story Review

Who could’ve she been from the inside? The one who brought unto us the Elizabethan Age! Did she go through torture as a child, or lifelong happiness? The one, who changed the future of England, was once seen as nothing but a shadow, Elizabeth. As a child, Elizabeth was skilled with needlework, and knowing many languages. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII, and his second wife Anne Boleyn, who was known in England as a “witch”. Elizabeth was later on, known as the Virgin Queen, as she never agreed to marry, because of her father who had six wives, two of them he beheaded, and two of them he divorced! This book is a brilliant piece written as a royal diary of the childhood of Elizabeth I, hence the title, “The Royal Diaries (Elizabeth I)” with true historical notes at the end of the book to complete the events.

In England, 1544, Elizabeth received a diary as a gift from her governess Kat. That is where she poured out her pain, secrets, and most important events on paper. The first thing she emphasized was her feeling of being invisible. First reason is because her father would exile her whenever he was unpleased with her. Another thing is the fact that she shall never rule, because she is third in line to the throne. Finally, how people look at her as half witch, because of her mother whom Henry VIII beheaded. Of course, her father was pleased with her sometimes, and still loved her, and so did Kat, and her good friend Robin. Years passed by, and things didn’t change from there.

And just as Elizabeth was waiting for her life to become more interesting, things instead started becoming very strange, and poison took place! The duchess of Lexford was poisoned. Elizabeth thought that it could’ve been her own sister, Mary, in the plan, because the duchess was getting in the way of Mary’s marriage plans! As all this chaos affected everyone in the palace, things get worse for Elizabeth, as Mary finds out about her diary that she has hidden! Back in the day that would’ve been a big deal, as she wrote how she truly felt about certain people in the diary that she would never say to anyone if she wanted to keep her life! As all this takes place everyone is waiting anxiously to find out if Edward will rule, or not, because his father, Henry VIII is terribly ill!

And it came upon them as the darkest hour, King Henry VIII dies! Of course now Edward becomes King, and rules by the guidance of his advisors, as he is still very young! Elizabeth from that point on was going through her hardest times. She would trade her life of royalty, but also of pain, and torture for a bird’s life! As she writes the last thing in her diary, “Would I trade my title for a bird’s life, a palace for a nest a realm for the sky?” Did Mary ever reveal her? Or rather did Elizabeth blame her sister for the poisoning of the duchess of Lexford, and announced it? How will Elizabeth ever rule? What is ahead of her before victory, as she discovers her destiny? The answer is in the book.

Christian Perspective

This book was written in a Christian perspective, because all the characters are Christian in the book. However there were many actions that were not Christ-like what so ever. For example, Henry divorcing two wives, beheading two, and exiling his daughter! Also, Elizabeth made terrible assumptions, and blamed her sister for poisoning the duchess! I think that if they were truly Christians, not just by name they would’ve had a lot less conflict in the family, and I also wonder how much the story would’ve changed if that was the case.

My Thoughts

I personally admire this book. It is a historical fiction written from the perspective of a royal victim. Because this book was written in the first person, it is easier to understand what Elizabeth really felt like in the book. It is an everyday journal in which you can find what might’ve been the inner feelings, and thoughts of Elizabeth I! I strongly recommend this book to history lovers, mystery lovers, and those who are interested in knowing what royals had to go through, because of their uneasy life. If you are one of those people, you won’t be able to put this book down!

Story Review:

Kevin Malarkey and his son, Alex, were involved in a terrible car crash in 2004 on their way home from church. Luckily Kevin wasn’t hurt; but Alex, only six at the time, suffered severely and was paralyzed from the neck down. It seemed completely impossible that he would survive, but God had other plans.

The doctor told Alex’s parents, Beth and Kevin, that in the unlikely case of Alex surviving he would not have normal brain function, would never breathe on his own, would never move on his own below his neck, would never be able to swallow food, and would never be able to talk. That’s a lot of “never’s,” but Beth simply told the doctor, “You are wrong.” She believed that God would show His mercy on Alex and would fully heal him. Even though his head was detached from his spine, she believed that God would perform a supernatural miracle, and that God had a special plan for her son on this earth.

Two months after the accident, Alex came out of his coma and returned to Ohio. He had an unbelievable story to tell because in those two months, Alex had been in heaven and had experienced absolutely incredible things. This book is about the amazing journey of a young boy and the unimaginable encounters with God that he experienced.

This book will show you just how magnificent God is and what amazing things He can do. It will teach you that God hears you when you pray and that it is important to listen to what God is trying to say to you. When you read this book, you can’t help but wonder about things beyond earth, and it will give you new ideas on heaven, angels, and the power of God.

Christian Perspective:

The boy who came back from heaven was written from a Christian perspective, and Christ-like behaviour is reflected. In the book, the authors are going through a huge struggle, and although Kevin Malarkey admits to sometimes losing his temper and getting frustrated, I think that for the most part Alex’s family dealt with the issue in a Godly way. This book often talks about prayer, and how much prayer affected them by strengthening and comforting them. This book affected me as a Christian by showing me that God really does hear me when I talk to Him, and that I can have a personal relationship with Jesus Himself. It inspired me and made me think a lot about some of the ideas that were presented.

Personal Thoughts:

I thought this book was very powerful, and it really got me thinking a little bit more about the spiritual realm. I like how the point of this book isn’t to convince you of anything but rather to share with you an amazing experience exactly how it happened. I also really liked how the authors gave the glory to God and didn’t put the focus on themselves by pointing out that they are just ordinary people like you and me. One thing I would have liked was if there was more to read from Alex and his personal experiences in heaven as I found that the book was a little more focused on the dad’s perspective. I would not only recommend this book to Christians who are seeking a closer relationship with God and who have questions about heavenly things, but also to nonbelievers to get them thinking about spiritual matters and what knowing God can do in their lives. If you haven’t read this book already, I would really encourage you to! It’s a truly amazing story that will show you what faith can do.
