Christian Perspective

This book was written in Christian perspective. Coopers family belief was really strong. There was never a moment the the questioned God. They never lost faith and always trusted God. when things didn't go there way they prayed and and never lost their faith,  and always stayed true to him.

My Thoughts

This is definitely one of the best fantasy books I've ever read. I found this book very interesting to read. The reason  I chose this book because my E.L.A teacher recommended it to me. What I liked about this book is that a Christian author wrote it, and I was excited to see how the author would write a Christian fantasy book. What is disliked was that the action took forever to start and felt that the book like a year for me to read. I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy.

Annie's Book Review

 Artemis Fowl
Author: Eoin Colfer
Publisher: Scholastic Inc.
Place and year of publication: New York, NY 2001
Number of pages: 280
Where I found the book: My home
Story Review

The book I read was Artemis Fowl. This story takes place in Ireland around 2001. A young boy named Artemis Fowl - the youngest of a long line of evil masterminds - and his trained body guard Butler have a keen interest in fairies and their rare gold. They decide to hunt down a fairy and take one hostage. Beneath the earth, fairies are free and have their own rules and technology but an elf named Holly Short had run out of magic and had to take the full moon ritual to regain it. Holly short was an elf working for the LEPrecon underground. But her job had taken over her life and she was filled with stress. Her over-demanding boss named Julius Root had too high of expectations and looked down on her because she was a girl. Holly had also caused life threatening accidents and was not trusted by her commanding officer. She tried all that she could to regain his trust and her good standing at her job.

When Holly went to regain her magic above ground, Artemis Fowl caught her and took her hostage. Holly Short was the unfortunate fairy who slipped into the hands of the evil boy Artemis Fowl. Artemis drugged the poor elf and she was forced to tell the secrets of the fairies and their underworld. They blackmailed her and tried to confuse her, but Holly's fellow LEPrecon soldiers and retrieval group tried all that they could to save Holly. In a battle of technology and fairy weaponry, the outcome that now every fairy dreaded was to be. The final battle takes place between the two world of the fairies and the humans, each fighting for rare fairy gold.

Christian Perspective

This book wasn’t written in a Christian perspective and there were no indications of a different religion used by the characters in the book. I think that since there was so much conflict, they could have turned to God to help them with their issues instead of using conflict to fix it. My personal thoughts on the religious point of view was that it involved magic and the conflict was the heart of the book. Without the conflict, the book would have been extremely boring.

My Thoughts

I chose this book because I am a huge fan of fantasy books. I thought the book was well written and had a lot of detail that made it better. It was interesting when the author described the workings of each of the two worlds. They existed in the same realm but had no knowledge of each other. It was a harmonious existence. Then, when the two worlds became aware of each other, they fell into conflict over the resources that one of the two held.

This book reminds me that we are one culture in a world of many cultures. We often don't understand or are conscious of the differences between us and them. The message I came away with from Artemis Fowl is that we are a selfish people who are only concerned with our own well-being. When we focus only on ourselves and what we want and feel we need, we ignore the needs of others and can often cause great harm.

Usually the books I read I choose to fit my interests, so I don’t have any dislikes about the book. I liked the amount of detail that the author gave. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action and enjoys reading fantasy because it provides a great deal of both of those things.

Review
Dusk has always been different. His sails are fur less, his ears are oddly shaped, his legs are skinny and weak, and he can see in the dark.. Chiropters are meant for gliding, but Dusk has wanted to flap his sails ever since he was a newborn. If Dusk flaps, he may be shunned and driven out from the colony. So he must glide and keep his secret desires to himself. But when a carnivorous ground dweller tries to attack him, Dusk flaps. Now that his secret is out he may be out casted forever.

Carnassial is a felid. He is the best saurian hunter in Patrofelis’ colony. He will become the next leader after Patrofelis dies. But when he tastes meat for the first time he can’t get enough. He starts hunting his fellow beasts and he is soon expelled from his colony. But it turns out that Carnassial is not the only one with this taste for flesh. Many other felids join him and he makes a new colony.

Carnassials colony crosses over to the island, where Dusk’s family lives. The sequoia tree Dusk lives in is perfect for the felids. Since it is inhabited by the chiropters, Carnassial must drive them out, and get a good meal while doing it.

Christian Perspective
This book was not written in a Christian perspective. There is lots of killing. They could have settled their differences in a different way. A good thing they did was look out for their family and Carnassial stood up for his beliefs. Dusk could have prayed when his colony couldn't find a home.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book. I read this book because I have read another book in the series and I like fantasy books. It was really suspenseful and exiting. I recomend this book to anyone who likes fantasy or suspenful books

The Two Sisters Of Bamarre By Olivia

Title: The Two Princesses From Bamarre
Author: Gail Carson Levine
Place And Year Of Publication: New York, 2001
Number Of Pages: 241
Where You Found The Book: School Library

Story Review:

Princesses Addie and Meryl live together in their beautiful castle in Bamarre with their father, who is very distant from them, many maids and servants, and their good friend Bella. Princess Addie is very timid and scared of alot things. Meryl on the other hand is brave, daring, and wants to go out and slay ogors and dragons, but Addie made Meryl promise that she would stay and protect her until Addie got married and moved away. There had aways been a dark plague in the land called the Grey Death, the plague made you very weak until the victim fell into a deep sleep for eleven days, then woke for three days with a high fever, then died. But their was a cure, the legend has it that when the weak found courage, and rain fell over Bamarre, then the plague would be gone, or people say that Dragons and fairies knew another cure. The main characters in this book are Addie, Meryl, Bella, and Rhys, the young sorcerer who lived at the castle. The themes in this book are an adventurous,  risk taking, and romance. This book is called The Two Princesses From Bamarre because Addie and Meryl, two princesses, live in Bamarre.

When Princess Addie finds out that her old house maid had caught the plague, she told her to fight the plague and not let the plague get to her. Her house maid went back to her home town where she stayed until the Grey Death took her life. Rhys, their sorcerer showed Addie, Meryl, and Bella some magic tricks, and gave them gifts. In return the girls decided to give him a gift as well, and Meryl recited a part from Drault, a legend of a brave hero who slayed dragons. While she was reciting, she started panting and had to sit down. They all brought her inside to bed because they thought it must be a cold. When Milton, their doctor, checked her out, it was certain, she had the Grey Death. Addie was devastated and weeped for hours. When Addie's father found out, he brought together an army of fifteen men and set off, a little while later Addie found out that her father was returning with nothing, she decided she had to go on her own and find the cure. Bella, Milton, and Rhys gave her gifts to help her and Rhys accompanied her part of the way. While she was searching she ran  into ogors, griffins, and dragons. Time is running out, will she be able to find the cure in time?

Christian Perspective:

This book was written in Medieval Times and so there was a lot of magic, sorcery, and witchcraft, so I don't think this book was written in a christian perspective. The book of Drualt was almost like their bible because they carried it around, reciting things from it that would help them get through rough times, just as we use verses in the bible to help us. Princess Addie acted like a christian should because she loved her sister so much that she was willing to go into the unknown forest and search for the cure, which could mean death. Rhys and Addie are in love and they want to get married, but since Rhys is a Sorcerer, he has rules against it. They decide to get married which goes against the sorcerer rule, but I don't think that is a bad thing and I think since they love each other it is okay.

Your Thoughts:

I really didn't want to have to read this book because it looked boring and I usually hate fantasies, but this book changed my mind about fantasies. It was a pretty good book, even though I didn't particularly like the ending. I really liked Addie's character and how she would do anything for her sister, even if it meant dying. I also liked how two very different people can overcome their differences and live happily ever after. I would recommend this book to people who like fantasies, romance, and the medieval times.

Victoria's Book review

Title: The Spiderwick Chronicles
Author: Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black
Publisher: Simon&Schuster Books for young readers
Place and Year of Publication: New York
Number of Pages: 323
Where You Found The Book: CHS library

This story is mainly about Jared Grace, his twin brother Simon Grace and his sister Mallory Grace. Because his dad had left his mom, his family had to stay at his great aunt Lucindas house.
The house was very old the doors were faded gray, worn with age and it was almost considered as a shack. This book is called
Spiderwick because their great great uncle Arthur spiderwick had wrote the Guide. The guide was the secret to all things. Since the people didnt know about the creatures, the creatures wanted to destroy it because they didnt want people to know about it.
Jared hated the house, the house looked like it was falling apart and he could hear something inside of the wall rustling.
Jared couldnt sleep so he shook his twin brother awake.
Mallory was in the lead walking a few paces and stopping to listen then she swung the boom handle at the wall. The wall was broken into piece. The three of them could still hear the noise. Simon pointed out, look! he bent down to touch a small door.
It was a dumbwaiter. The dumb waiter took Jared to the small library there it was a chest. Inside there was square bundle, wrapped in dirty cloth and it was a field Guide.
Since Jared found the book everything started to change. Goblins had kidnapped his brother Simon, troll wanting to eat them and ferries who wanted to make them a hostage. Will they keep the book safe?
Theme: fantasy, adventure and mystery

Christian perspective: This book was not written in Christian perspective. It was based on magical book and magical creatures. One thing that Jared should have done in Christian way was when he got scared and woke his brother up he should have prayed. In the book of Psalm 34:4 says, I sought the lord, and he answered me, he delivered me from all my fears. When Jared was complaining about his great aunts house he should have been thankful and gracious.

My thoughts: I chose this book because this book had fantasy and adventure in it. I really enjoyed reading this book because the creatures had very unique names and some of them made me laugh. One thing that stood out to me the most was when Jared wanted to save his brother Simon and it really showed how he cared for him. Recommend this book to a person who likes reading an adventure and fantasy.

Story Review:

If myths of far away enchanted worlds are difficult for you to imagine, then your eyes need to open now! In England, in the late 1800's, lived two neighbors, Polly and Digory. Polly lived with her parents, while Digory lived with his aunt, his very ill mother, and his strange-mannered Uncle Andrew. It all began with Uncle Andrew or as he was called the “magician”, hence the title, “The Magician’s Nephew”. The famous author, C.S. Lewis, wrote an epic series of “The Chronicles of Narnia” starting with this brilliant fantasy! He wrote in a theme of mystery - of everything they were about to discover. Another was a theme of urgency - to escape from the White Witch. Last but not least was the theme of amazement - at the creation of a new world. This was all about to be part of the two neighbors’ lives!

Polly and Digory were one day exploring in a secret tunnel they found in the attic. They were mainly focused on finding an abandoned, supposedly haunted, house. They thought they were at the right place until the door slammed open and they found something better than the haunted house, Uncle Andrew’s study room. They thought it would be a good chance to explore and see what Andrew spent most of his time on and paid the most attention to, until they were locked in! Andrew locked them in to trick them in taking part of an experiment he was doing. He told Polly that she could have one of the yellow rings he made and she did. However, he wasn’t offering, but he was sending her off to her possible doom, she vanished! Of course, Digory fell into the trap of having to go after her and he did. They ended up finding themselves in a very quiet, beautiful, and enchanted forest. It was so peaceful and dreamy that they almost were going to forget who they were forever! They named it “The Wood between the Worlds” because there were so many different pools that they discovered they could jump into to get to different “worlds”! Of course, they marked the pool they got out of to know which one is for “their world”. They head off jumping into another one to discover a different, perhaps dangerous place!

That world was so dull and dark, with a red sun that looked like it was older than ours and was barely shining in a black sky, which was very mysterious! The place was full of ancient ruins and basically no life. Polly and Digory became more carious about this place, though Polly was a little reluctant to keep going. They explored further and further inside and came to a stop. They finally found something worth looking at, a room full of hundreds and hundreds of majestic, glorious, and powerful looking people. At least that’s what they thought at first, but then they discovered these were incredible waxwork figures or statues! The statues looked glorious and magnificent, but as they went further inside the statues became duller. Suddenly, they came across one that was confusing them. Her statue looked beautiful but her skin was so white and she looked vicious, brutal, and proud! Then, they found a square pillar inside the room with a golden arch, a bell, and a hammer on top of it. Through these things, they made the biggest mistake of their lives, they stroke the bell! At first, it gave a sweet sounding note, a steady note. It started getting louder and louder. It eventually became so loud beyond imagination, to the point that stones couldn’t stand it and a quarter of the roof fell! That statue that took their breath way became alive! She was Jadis, the Queen of Charn, the place they were in. She told them her story from beginning to end, but didn’t tell them she was up to get their world and she almost did!

In their world, she created such chaos and everyone was so terrified because they’ve never seen anything like what she did! On a hansom’s roof standing – not sitting - and holding a whip was Jadis the Queen of Queens and Terror of Charn! Without taking the chance of letting anyone get hurt, Polly and Digory rushed to get her out and bring her to “The Woods between The Worlds”. When they got there, they quickly jumped into another pool, trying to escape, but just as they reached the new world they discovered that they had company! The Queen was there, along with a Cabby, Uncle Andrew, and a horse! They were all standing beside Polly and Digory when they vanished from their world to the “Wood between the Worlds” therefore they vanished with them! Regardless, this world was different, it was dark and dull with absolutely nothing in it!

They stood there, blind, and not knowing whether they’re dead or alive! Finally, in the midst of the darkness and silence, they heard a voice singing! It was the most beautiful sounding, magnificent, indescribable voice they’ve ever heard! However, what they saw next was incredibly the most glorious! They heard a harmony of voices singing and thousands of thousands of stars appeared. It was almost as if those stars were singing! They were much brighter than our stars. Then, the true light started appearing! It was a newborn sun rising from the East and after it, there was a fresh breeze spreading over the beautiful landscape! Trees and new grass filled the new earth. It was breathtaking and made it unbelievable for them to think they’re still alive! BUT … the most fascinating, unimaginable, glorious view of them all was who was behind all this, who was going to assign them the most difficult tasks, and make them nobles, the Creator of this Narnia, Aslan!

Christian perspective:

Of course, this book was not written from a Christian perspective. It involved magic, many mythical “worlds”, and an evil witch, these are all unrealistic things! However, C.S Lewis was a Christian who clearly brought Genesis 1 into his fantasy. The “New World” in the beginning was dark and dull. Genesis 1:2 says, “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep”. Aslan, “representing” God in the book, created the light of the stars and the sun. Genesis 1:3 says, “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light”. Even in fantasy, existence without a creator wouldn’t make sense! No voices can be heard by chance and no trees can come up on their own! One thing I love about this book is the fact that it shows that just as music needs a musician and voices need singers – ex. the stars in the new world – a huge and extraordinary world definitely needs an unlimited and all-knowing creator. Another thing is that during the creation of the New World, thousands of stars were singing. This represents in our real world how all creation glorifies the name of God!

My Thoughts:

I chose this book, because it was the first in the series of “The Chronicles of Narnia” and I’ve read the second book before it. I wanted to see how the series began and how Narnia came to be! I also wanted to do a book review on a fantasy book which I haven’t done before. I was fascinated by this book and how the author brings the story to life. I loved it! There were a few drawings here and there to help the reader picture what is happening – it certainly helped me. One of my favorite parts in the book was the creation of Narnia, because of the way C.S Lewis described it. I could almost hear Aslan’s song and see the stars, along with the newborn sun! C.S Lewis used excellent vocabulary and left the reader hanging every chapter. I recommend this book to those who have creative imagination, because that will allow them to hear, see, or even smell everything in the book. This will make it even more interesting than it is. I recommend it to people who have read other parts of the series or even those who have only heard about it, because this is the explanation of the first discoveries of Magic in the series. It will allow you to better understand the rest of the series. Enjoy reading!

Liesl and Po
Title: Liesl and Po
Author: Lauren Oliver
Publisher: Harper Collins publishers
Place and year of publication: New York, 2011
Number of pages: 307
Where I found this book: I own this book

Summary:
This book is named Liesl and Po because this book mainly revolves the adventure of Liesl and Po. Three days after Liesl’s father died, a ghost named Po appeared in her dark bedroom in the attic( thanks to her step mom) with a dog or cat looking pet named Bundle. They wanted her to start drawing again, because she used to draw before her father died. She thought that Po is a ghost, and if he can find her father, tell him her message, then she would start to draw.

After a lot of searching, Po finally found the ghost of her father. He asked him exactly what Liesl wanted to ask him “How did you die and I really miss you.” He replied “I really miss you too and I should have never eaten that soup.” Liesl found his response really confusing.

At the same time, outside her house was a boy named Will, holding a wooden jewellery box. It contained world’s most powerful magic. Suddenly, he remembered that he needed to get some supplies for the alchemist like a blind man’s eye, some chicken hearts, etc. from Mr. Gray.

When Mr. Gray went to get the supplies he fell asleep and put the world’s most powerful magic next to an identical jewellery box. After Will and the alchemist took the ashes to her. Her face was burning red, when she figured out that it was not the magic, but some person’s ashes. Will raced out of the mansion with his full speed before the alchemist and Madame Premiere to catch Will.

There at Liesl’s house, Liesl thought of a plan to run away from the attic and go to her old house to bury her father’s ashes next to her mother’s. When Karen (a maid who always brought Liesl’s food in the attic) comes to give her food, Po scared her. In the hurry to get down the stairs, she forgot to lock the door, giving Liesl a way to escape.

On their way to her old house, Liesl and Po met Will and they started their journey together. Do Liesl, Po and Will get to the old house in time?

Perspective Christian:
I don’t think this book was written in a Christian perspective. One thing Liesl could have was to trust in the Lord and she should have prayed when she got stuck in difficult situation. Just like the verse Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” When Madame Premiere got angry at Will, she could explain it to her angrier at Will; she could have explained it to her more nicely and calmly. Just like God forgives our sins.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed reading this book. One of the things that stood out to me the most were that how much she loves her dad and how her step mom was so rude and she didn’t like her. I felt really sad for her. One thing I really liked about her character was they she was always calm and always knew what to do. The main reason I read this book was because I haven’t read a fantasy book yet. I f I could recommend this book to somebody, I would recommend this book to a person who enjoys reading fantasy books.

story review
The title is poppy cause the main character is a mouse named poppy. In the beginning of this book Poppy and her boyfriend Ragweed go to bannock hill and that is where Ragweed was going to ask Poppy to marry him but Mr.Ocax kills Ragweed. The main characters are: Poppy, Lungwort, sweet Cicely, Basil, Mr.Ocax, Ereth. All the mice were named after flowers and fruit. The problems in this book are that Mr.ocax wont let the mouse family move so Poppy wants to know why so she sets off to figure out why. The important events in here are basically only when Poppy tries to find out why they cant move to the new house. The theme in this story is fantasy. i love these series i want to read the whole series.
christian perspective
I don't know if the author was a christian if she was she could of made Poppy pray to God and ask why her family wasn't allowed to move. The characters in this book could mean something like Mr.Ocax cold be Satan and Poppy could be us and the new house could be heaven and Ereth could be Jesus cause Satan doesn't want us to go to heaven and we go through these stages like Poppy meets Ereth we meet Jesus and he helps us along the way.
your thoughts
i chose this book cause it was short and cause i like animals. I like this book cause it has adventure and the main character is a mouse which is an animal so I really liked it. i would recommend this book to people who like mice or my sister cause they like animals as main characters and its a short book.

Title: The Capture
Author: Kathryn Lasky
Publisher: Scholastic Inc.
Place & Year of Publication: USA, June 2003
Number of Pages: 219
Where I Found the Book: School library

Story Review:

This is the 1st book in the series of “Guardians of Ga’Hoole”. It’s about a barn owl named Soren. There have been many baby owls captured and even eggs have started to disappear. And one day Soren is snatched away from his family when he’s only a few weeks old. He and lots of other owls are taken to a place called St. Aegolius Academy for orphaned owls. While Soren is there he meets a girl elf owl named Gylfie. They become really good friends and they work together to try to find out why they were snatched.

When any owl first arrives at St. Aegolius Academy they’re given numbers to replace their names and then they are all moon blinked (which is like being brain washed). But Soren and Gylfie are smarter then anyone thinks. They figure out that the legends of Ga’Hoole keep them safe from being moon blinked and then they just pretend to be moon blinked.

But something bigger is happening then just moon blinking, something that could destroy the world for all owls. But can Soren and Gylfie escape from St. Aegolius Academy? The only way out is up and that means they have to do something they’ve never done before… fly. They need to believe in the legends of Ga’Hoole, so hopefully they’re true!

The book is titled “The Capture” because it’s all about Soren being captured and his adventures he has with Gylfie after he’s captured and taken away from his parents. There’s a constant theme of adventure and mystery in the book because of all the adventures Soren and Gylfie have and the secret of St. Aegolius Academy that they’re trying to find the answer to. There’s also the theme of friendship. Soren and Gylfie become very close and they trust in each other. They can just look at one another and know what the other is thinking.

Christian Perspective:

I’d say this book wasn’t written from a Christian perspective but Soren dealt with his capture well. He didn’t give up even though he sometimes felt like it. We, as Christians, need that same type of perseverance. When things get tough we need to believe in God and trust in him. Sometimes that can be hard but it’s always worth it in the end. We also need the same type of trust in our friendships that Soren and Gylfie had in each other.  It’s good to have a friendship like that, where you know you can trust that person no matter what, and it can sometimes be hard to do that.

My Thoughts:

I don’t always enjoy fantasy books but this one was very well written and I couldn’t put it down. The author does a really good job with her descriptions and details. It makes you feel like you’re there. I chose this book because when I first saw it, it looked really interesting and I wanted to read it. I’d also heard good things about it from other people. You really get to know the characters as the story continues and that makes it fun to read because you can put yourself in their place. I’d recommend this book to someone who enjoys mysteries and fantasy books and someone who doesn’t mind the mention of bloody scenes because there are a couple in this book. But it’s an amazing book and I encourage you to read it!

Title: The seventh tower

Story review
Tal has always lived in a world of darkness a world where the sun is blocked by a magical Veil. But one day when he finds out that his father is dead or possibly missing. Him and his shadowguard sit out to get another sunstone (which are “magical” stones that emit very bright light) to be able to heal his mother from sickness and protect his siblings. The one his family use to use is with their father. So he tried to ask his relatives for one because they had more way more then they needed but they refused.

So he tried to enter for a contest called Achievement of luminosity and there were categories. And he accidentally signed up for the Achievement of music, instead of the Achievement of body. But one of the jades was sushin and he was a person who hated Tal’s dad, for beating him in Achievement of combat 8 times in a row. So he gave him a bad result. So that’s when he got the idea from his uncle and his shadowguard (your shadow that can change shapes and protect its master from danger) to steel a sunstone from one of the seven towers.

He go’s and end’s up trying to steel one from the least protected tower which was the red tower. But when he gets right to the top of the tower a snake looking spiritshadow (are one of the most powerful shadowguards) sees him and pushes him of that tower. And that’s when he meets the far-raiders’ and, Milla and Crone.
That’s why probably the author choose this title because it tells the reader about the seven towers and how the main character falls off of it. That why I would say that this books theme was mysteries and adventurous. And full of vary interesting things that you would have never thought of.

Christian prospective
Well this book wasn’t really written from a Christian prospective and the character didn’t really deal with the problem in a Godly way. Cause Tal tried to steal the sunstone from the red tower not gain it . Because his first and second plane didn’t work, so I think he should have just waited till the right moment for him to win another sunstone. And that way he will be able to talk care of his family and be the next leader Intel his father returns (maybe).

My thoughts
I choose this book because I was tolled to do something different then before, and I thought it would be fun to try something other then what I have been reading. But Truthfully I ended up hating this  book. It’s really boring and I hate the whole idea of the sun being blocked because of a veil or whatever, and how the character dealt with the problem. And I would definitely recommend this book to people who enjoy reading mysteries and magical books.

Story Review:

This story begins in a valley occupied by dragons who receive the news that humans are moving in to flood their valley. One of the young dragons named Firedrake decides to go out in search of the Rim of Heaven with his cat-like friend Sorrel for a place to stay in peace, but that is believed by many to be nonexistent. Firedrake, on the other hand, has always dreamed of finding that magical place high in the mountains where dragons are said to be hiding in safety from Nettlebrand the Golden One, and where they are safe from humans. Nettlebrand is a mighty creature that appears as a dragon but really was made by an alchemist with a secret recipe. After being created, Nettlebrand ate his master and hunted silver dragons, such as Firedrake. Even though they have tried, the silver dragons cannot melt Nettlebrand’s golden scales, and they have been hiding from him ever since his last huge hunt. They are said to be hiding in the Rim of Heaven, and Firedrake is determined to find them.

During the journey, Firedrake and Sorrel run into a boy named Ben. Ben decides that he wants to go with Firedrake and Sorrel on their journey, and that’s where the title comes from. Ben is believed to be the rider who will fulfill the legends from long ago and who will bring safety for the dragons. After receiving a map from a rat that they were told to visit, they go on their way. Sorrel thinks that he should be in charge of giving directions, but lands in a place that is shaded yellow on the map, which means danger. They happen to land right near Nettlebrand’s castle, and the Golden One sends his armor cleaner Twigleg to spy on the dragon during his journey so that he can give Nettlebrand directions to the Rim of Heaven and so that Nettlebrand can hunt once again. Ben the “Dragon Rider” is a key character in this book and his adventures are a main part of the storyline.

On their journey, the three companions run into many more problems, and meet many new creatures such as a basilisk, a sea serpent, enchanted ravens that are also Nettlebrand’s spies, and a djinn with a thousand eyes. Will Firedrake find the Rim of Heaven? Will Twigleg stay faithful to Nettlebrand? Will Nettlebrand ever be defeated? Will the existence of dragons disappear forever? You’ll just have to read the book and find out! This story will take you through many adventures as you discover hidden secrets and sense a theme of adventure, suspense and fantasy.

Christian Perspective:

I don’t think this book was written from a Christian perspective because it’s a fantasy about dragons and other mythical creatures with no symbolism in it like Chronicles of Narnia for instance. In this book, there is a place called the “Rim of Heaven.” We believe that after you die you may or may not go to heaven and that there is no physical place that takes up matter and space that is heaven, but rather that it is a realm. In the book it refers to the safe place for dragons as the “Rim of Heaven,” and it doesn’t have anything to do with heaven as we know it. I think the reason the term “Heaven” is used is because we think of heaven as a perfect place to live in peace and that’s exactly what is was for the dragons. Even though this book wasn’t written from a Christian perspective I didn’t find it offensive or disrespectful to Christianity at any point.

Personal Thoughts:

I have read this book numerous amounts of times, and each time I discover something new. I chose this book at first because it seemed really interesting, and I chose to read it again because I really like the story line and I hadn’t read it in a long time. Even though the amount of pages may seem intimidating to some, it is fairly large print and the pages are small. Trust me, once you get into this book, you can’t stop yourself. I read it in only a few days, and I never got bored of it. I really liked it because it always left you with a cliffhanger and it always kept you thinking. You had to try to figure out what was going to happen next and had to try to put all the pieces together for it to make sense. I could really picture myself in the scene with the characters, and could also feel what they were feeling. I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy books because this book is all fantasized. The author had a really creative imagination and I think that people who don’t usually enjoy fantasy might even like this book!

Kidnapped

Title: Kidnapped, the abduction
Author: Gordon Korman

Place & year of publication: May 2006
Number of pages: 137

Story Review

This title of this book is called “Kidnapped”, because Margaret, who’s 11 years old, gets kidnapped, and the Falconers gets involved with FBI, the police, and all the other criminologists.

Doctor John and Louise Falconer are the parents of Aiden who’s 15 years old and Margaret whose 11 years old and everyone thinks that the Falconers are the worst traitor because the Falconers helped the Horus global group which was the citizen’s “enemy”. The Falconers try to get back to normal, but it doesn’t go as smooth as the Falconers think.

One day Aiden and Meg were walking down an old downtown street, but suddenly there is a van that lurches toward Aiden and Meg. The sliding door opens, and a man who was wearing a spider Man mask tries to kidnap Aiden and Margaret. Aiden defends himself and gets out of the situation but his sister, Margaret gets kidnapped.

As soon as he realizes that his sister had been kidnapped, the Falconers get involved with FBI, the police, and all the other criminologists again. The Falconer’s closest friend, Agent Emmanuel Harris, also help the Falconers to find Margaret. Aiden tries to get involved as much as possible but his dad doesn’t let him.

While Aiden is still looking for his sister, Margaret tries to get out by trying many different ways, but doesn’t find the right way. Margaret remembers that Aiden talked about how people get “crazy” about flags, so she leaves a clue by trying to cut the rope, that holds the flag, with a broken piece of brick so that the flag will fly and give a clue to Aiden. On the flag it says “Commonwealth of Virginia”.

Aiden finds out now where Margaret is by finding the flag, but something goes wrong and the kidnappers tell the Falconers to place two million dollars in order to get Margaret back by 2 o’clock tomorrow.

Will the Falconers be able to get two million dollars by tomorrow at 2 o’ clock and get Margaret back, or will they ever see Margaret again?

Christian perspective

In my opinion, I don’t think this is a book that’s written from Christian perspective, because it’s about kidnapping for money and in the ten commandments it says “you shall have no others gods before me” and the gods represents money in this situation and it also says “Do not murder” and in the book, the kidnappers were going to kill Margaret by running over her if they did not get the two million dollars. Another thing is, the Falconers were in Juvenile and they became fugitives for eight weeks and it doesn’t have or say anything that has Christianity or other religions.

My thoughts

I choose this book, because it had lots of action, and adventures. I would have to figure out the clues and I would have to think about the next chapter. In my opinion, I enjoyed this book, and didn’t enjoy it at the same time, because it made you think about the next chapter and made you wanted to keep reading more, but I didn’t like how the endings were not detailed enough and how the ending was a little short. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, adventures, clues and all the mysteries that you have to search for.

Book Review

Georgia is a 15 year old girl who loves horses. Her mother got remarried and she hates her mean stepbrother, Russell.

Georgia buys a little glass winged horse from an antique shop. What she doesn’t know is that has the power to take her to a whole different time. One night the horse takes her to 16th century Remora where Cesares favorite horse, Starlite, gives birth to a little black winged horse.

In Remora horse racing is a big deal. And everyone knows that a winged horse is the fastest of all horses. And since a winged horse only is born every 100 years everyone wants to get their hands on black winged horse, who they named “Merla” which means “Blackbird”. Now Cesare and Georgia must protect Merla and train her for the big race.

The title “City of Stars” refers to Remora which has lots of lights. Remorian people also depend on the stars to show them the way.

Christian Perspective

I don’t think this book is a Christian book because there is lots of fighting and people keep trying to steal Merla. I think they could have dealt with problems a better way. The author, Mary Hoffman, is a Christian but I don’t think the book is. One person in the book is a Christian but he is not a main character. He is Mr. Goldsmith and he is the one who sells Georgia the glass horse. If the book were a Christian book they would pray that nothing would happen to Merla. They would also pray that Merla would be strong enough to win the race.

My thoughts

I really liked this book. I chose it because I love horses and fantasy and this has both! The book did get a little boring sometimes, but only before something big happened. This was a very good book. It was suspenseful and thrilling, but it was also happy and had some relaxing parts as well. I could really picture everything in the book. The author did a good job at describing everything. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, animals, and long books.

Story review:
The title of this book shows that life can’t always be easy and it might not look complicated as it is. Kat Randall lives with her beloved dog, Cheddar, her sister Hannah, and her parents. Kat is going into 7th grade and she’s feeling that this is going to be her best year. Kat comes before the school day and she finds out that Cheddar gets into a car accident. Cheddar goes to the veteran hospital before Kat’s first day of school that she’s been very excited for. She tries not to worry for her school day, but she gets impatient and “borrows” a bike to go to the veteran hospital. When she’s done, she finds out that the bike got stolen. Kat tells her parents about it and they tell her, to tell the bike owner (which is Melody Whiezersky), what had exactly happened to the bike.

Mrs. Lawrence is the one who gets Cheddar into a car accident and Mr. Lawrence invites Kat to go fishing together. While they’re fishing, Mr. Lawrence tells about his wife, about the Alzheimer’s disease that she has which makes you so confused that you can’t be left alone in the house and can’t remember things very well.

When Kat gets home, she finds out that Cheddar gets to come home soon. She gets excited but she remembers that she still got the bike problem. Kat’s school year is not going great as she expected and she tries to solve the problem as fast as she can, but doesn’t go smooth as she expects. Kat calls her two best friends; Abby and Matthew to see if they want help Kat to look for the bike. They look all over the place, but still can’t find it.

When she gets back, she gets a call from Mr. Lawrence and he asks if he can take care of Mrs. Lawrence. Kat says she will, because she still needs to earn more money for the bike. Kat helps Mrs. Lawrence with the gardening and when they are done, Kat gets some drinks and when she goes outside, she can’t find Mrs. Lawrence. Kat looks everywhere in the garden and the other side of the house and she’s not there, so Kat calls 911 and tell them what had happened. After she hangs up, she finds Mrs. Lawrence, coming out of the Bathroom. A moment later, a police car screeches at Mrs. Lawrence’s house and Kat tells that they lost a track of each other for a little bit.

About a half an hour later, Mr. Lawrence arrives and when Kat is about to leave, she sees a police officer, stretching something in the water and it was a bike. Kat tells the officer about the missing bike. He kept reaching the bikes out of the river and the fourth bike that he found was Melody’s bike. Even though the bike was missing some pieces; at least she found the bike. When Kat goes to the school the next day, she gets called in the principle office and she finds out that, her classmate, Dennis Boyle and his brother was the bike crime. They found the missing pieces in their shed. Dennis and his brother apologize to Kat and she is so happy that the bike crime is over. Kat realizes that everything is over now, and everything is now back to normal again.

Christian perspective:
This book doesn’t specifically talk about Christianity, but there are some actions and believes that Christians also believe and act in. The family kept praying when their dog got into a car accident. They also prayed when the bike got stolen. The main characters shows some Christianity perspective, when her classmate asked for help, she helped her classmate even though she didn’t wanted to and had lots of other things that she had to deal with.

My thoughts:
In my perspective, I think this is a great book, especially to those who like dogs. I enjoyed the book, because this book taught me some lessons about being patient and looking at the positive perspective. I like how this book makes you curious and makes you wonder about the next chapter. I like how this book isn’t just focused on one main idea, but focused on school, friendships, family, and lots of other things that are happening around you. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to talk about their friendships, communities, school and who likes animals.
